Well, I can't explain it with pictures, but my basic understanding so as to get the ball rolling, is that the turbo is down stream of the MAF.

This helps to ensure that the amount of air flow is more accurately measured. With the turbo placed upstream, as in a draw through set up, air can enter after the MAF without being accounted for,thus causing a potentially lean condition.

I'd be interested in getting rid of the MAF just cos mine goes pants on wet days

I use a MAP setup

Blow-Through MAF: Something I'm working on at present :laugh:

 

What's needed: A slot-style MAF with accompanying 9th order polynomial function, a TIG welder, a soldering iron, an AFR gauge, a dyno, lots of mapping and lots of modification of ECU parameters to get it running spot-on.

I've also run a standard MAF in blow-through configuration, it required a lot of modification to the OEM VQ map.
