A trip into VR

Hi,

One of my many hobbies apart from spending countless amount of money on zeds is programming.

And mixed with gaming; both the online and offline types of first person shooters I have medled with

creating my own levels and games in the past for the likes of quake, Duke Nukem and Unreal.

I've always been fascinated with what in the 80s was considered Virtual Reality and my first experience

Seeing this although not in the real world was in the movie Lawnmower Man. This gave you an idea

Of what it possible could be like but with 80s style graphics.

Fast forward to the present date and we have the first true Virtual Reality system : The Oculus Rift.

This is what I would call the first consumer ready headset available now.

It's labeled as the DK2 as it's the second version of the Development Kit you can purchase.

Well as you've guessed by now I now own the DK2 which I've been using for the last two days.

All I can say is Wow.

This think is so in depth it's a full emersion experience.

If you know anyone with one of these plead and beg for a go as I can guarantee there's nothing like it.

I'll post up some YouTube videos shortly but even these won't let you appreciate it fully.

Totally agree with the whole VR scene. My Son experienced a few systems being used at Goodwood FOS this year and came off raving about them.

For me the best system to complement Oculus Rift is the Omni treadmill, which will finally give a physical exercise option to the hours playing Shoot-em-ups! etc.

I can see this as a business opportunity for game hire events! as the Oculus kit is widely available and the Omni system is affordable, if perhaps still needing some tweaks!

Check this link, its quite cool! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTtfAQEeAJI
