Anyone tried the 6.5 inch subs? they run about 80 us dollars each, arent super powerful...BUT I think I could fit a pair of them in the back speaker areas...Just need to find an amp that could be hidden somewhere and power at least those two speakers, or maybe all 4 (keeping 2 6's or 6.5's up front)

any suggestions? Any idea where to hide an amp other than the spair tire well?

thanks

2×6½" speakers have less radiating surface than 1×10" and only a touch more than a 1×9" !?!

No point other than info.

thanks :) The reason i'm trying to avoid 1 10 or 12 is to keep them completely hidden (this car's a theft target around here, really rare) and, i'm not super worried about bass, i just want alittle better than the stock 6x9's and 6's in my grand am.

If u don't need big bass i expect these are pretty good but i expect ud have trouble fitting them in with those big magnets etc.. But i dont really know how big the rear enclosure is.

yeah, that's what i wondered about, i havent really looked at the speaker enclosures back there (dont have the car yet :P) It looks pretty good sized, i figured i'd have to add some batting to drop the square footage in there (the other ones i found required .1 to .3 cubic feet air space) i'm not huge into bass or anything, but they look better than regular speakers at least

IT just so happens that I had yesterday off and I got bored and decided to strip out the entire boot, all pannels and back seat.

Sorry to say but the standard rear speakers ar enot 6x9's they are more like 3x6's. I doubt that you would get these babies inside the rear speaker casing.

Oh and before anyone tries it, the grill for both front and rear speakers only comes off from inside the pannel. If you try and pull it off from the outside you will break it along with the panel.

I have decided to leave the original speakers in there and build myself a boot system. I've removed the spare tyre and the tool box and joined the RAC. Therefore if I do get a flat I just need to give someone a call.

I'll put some pictures on my web site in the next week or so and let you have the address. It may give you some ideas.

If you wanna sell your toolkit then please gimme a shout as the car I am about to buy hasnt got one and it'd be nice ot have the pukka job in there.

I pretend to work, they pretend to pay me!

Have just replaced the rear speakers in my ZX. 6 x 4's are all your going to get in that little space and forget about any type of bass from that area of the car. They really are just for a 'fill in' sound.

Any one out there replaced the standard fronts. I understand a bit tricky to get at. The front standard are not that bad untill the volume is cranked up a bit.

I am looking to put some kind of small set up yet retain enough room for targa tops in the boot. Any suggestions Guys!!!!

Goto a clarion store, for around £135 they have a preamped 8inch sub that will fit under your passenger seat and I hear that it sounds pretty decent.

I have 6.5 inch components in my doors and although they arnt set up as subs they are quite bassy.

Andrew

Beg to differ but I fitted Kenwood 7X5 inthe back with little mods

Willie

Hi Willie

I am impressed but that must be a bit of a tight squeeze. How do they sound?

Andrew

i also fitted kicker 5 x 7 in the back i had to take the speaker bracket out and just fitted them from underneth fit nicely and sound ok too

ps and my rear speaker covers come off from the outside youpull the outside edge and it clips out ant the inside edge slides out.

I got the 7X5s Kens in the normal place under the metalwork. Had to re drill fixing holes and make up gasketting to seal / baffle the speaker. Somebody had fitted tiny 6X4 20watt twin cones with a gap all round them before. You can imagine the crap sound due to the gap.

Normal grills fitted back on. Sound is OK with the Kens but could alwasy use stronger bass and of course there can be buzzing from panels at high vol with heavy bass music. However its OK.

Thought about a sub but couldnt bear to add any more weight to the lardy beast. Maybe changing to 9X6s in the front doors with an amp will be far enough for me.

Willie
