Its icy cold this morning and it was raining through the night.

So, this morning while driving to work. The car started mis-firing like one or 2 cylinders had died. Was happening in third gear initially but then all. Power dropped dramatically and then was just mis-firing in general at all revs.

Limped the car hear but ain't got a clue what could be wrong. Seems to be idling okay. checked the coil pack connections and they seem OK.

Could the cold weather be the cause? I am very low on petrol too

it sounds like you have got the MAF wet ....take it off if you can and warm it with a hair drier or put it on a radiator to dry out, check the filters as they might be damp as well and that will just make things worse buddy

also check the terminations on the PTU ( two plugs drivers side bank mounted on the front cam cover ) and the leads from the PTU to the coil packs.

Will have to try and get it home and have a look. How can I stop the MAF getting wet? (assuming it's that). It's got an Apexi cone filter

you need to look at how it could get wet and block off any way for water to get around your nose panel onto the filters

There's a small splash shield that sometimes breaks off (that's what happened on mine) combined with a half missing undertray.

I've seen the yanks use a large plastic flower pot cut in half as a shield.

I had this but mine was that my ptu was relocated under the nose cone, water would drip onto the connector, when I took it off it was full of water. Dried it out and moved it to a slightly drier location and covered the connector in silicon and it didn't happen again. I spent an age trying to find the problem initially suspecting the maf as that is the common fault.

Yeah, I suspected a wet MAF which was why I'd mentioned the fact it had been raining.

I don't think water is dropping on to it from above, I more suspect it's getting sucked up from below. The tray that's just beneath the filter has a bit cut out for the Apexi cone - I hope that makes sense. Lexx is this the guard you mean?

It seams to be a common problem with exposed cone filters as you want lots of free flowing air going into it but in wet conditions you will get it wet leading to misfiring. I have this problem with mine yet when I was in Richards 300zx leaving the Coventry show in monsoon conditions he had no problems with his cone filter.

Yeah I think so Lee.

I have a blitz filter and the tray didn't need cutting. But the slips broke off due to age.

Before I relocated the MAF to the FMIC pipework, I had my HKS filters behind the indicators, with a single MAF on the nearside. I never saw any issues with water ingress down there during heavy rainfall.

Do check the connections to the PTU.

Update.

So been up to the car park to get the car. Started driving it towards work. Started to mis-fire again fairly quickly and now its completely dead. And just coughing and won't fire up.

Gonna go and get petrol to check now. I don't get why it'd mis-fire though. But I'll soon know

Zero fuel was the answer lol. Having said that though I also had the MAF off and cleaned a bunch of connectors at the same time. Drove home nicely enough. The way it was mis-firing though I'm still suspecting the MAF from this morning, then a lack of fuel as to why it cut out
