help on choosing the right Zx

Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum and am looking to buy a 300ZX in the very near future. I have never driven one as yet so I am totally lost on what to look out for.

What model and what trasmission I should go for. I am living in London and would prefer an Auto because of the terrible traffic jams here. How reliable is the Auto gearbox on these, any recurring faults you guys have come across? Faults in the manual?

How many BHP are the TT and the non-TT models? If there is a thread here on that information, please direct me to it.

When buying one, what are the must things I should look at? a nice little tutorial anyone??? How can you tell if the car has been thrashed about?

Nissan in UK able to carry out a full diagnostics on these? Am asking that because I have Jap import Celica GT and Toyota dealers just cant do a diagnostic because everything is in Japanese! Oh, that would be up for sale as soon as the Zx is in the garage.

Servicing costs? am i right that mpg is 20-25 for the TT?

I know I am asking a lot, please be patient with me. I just dont want to jump in and buy something that would costs me a bomb to repair afterwards.

Many thanks,

Arslan

Firstly Welcome its not too much what you ask.

Standard 300ZX Twin-Turbo are 300bhp, the NA ones are 222BHP if I remember rightly.

All UK ZX's are Twin Turbo 2+2 seater T-Top. So if you see a hard top, convertable, 2 seater or NA its an import.

MPG, I got 25ish going round Wales over the weekend and that which quite a bit of hard acceleration and overtaking. Reached 110 oops! But around town you are looking at 16-18 maybe 20mpg.

Most ZX's are autos and finding a good manual is very hard, but you want an auto so thats a one less thing to worry about.

The ZX have lots of self Diagnostics and some one has made a program so you can plug it into your Laptaop and diagnose it there. But most of the diagnostics can be done by simple and sometimes not so simple routeens on the ECU, ABS or when just starting your car.

I dont know much about the auto boxes so I dont know how long they last for.

As for servicing them, people tend to stay away from Nissan dealers, because they probably dont get that many of them in and half the time make a mess of the job and they charge too much. There are a number of great places that are able to do the work on the Z for cheaper and most probably do a better job. But with a Super car comes super costs. However the better you treat your Z the better it will treat you.
