Hey folks!

Think this is my first post, so please be kind!

I`ve had my z since April this year. Kinda upgraded from the 200sx (which is also a blinder BTW). I have so many things to ask/say but will try to keep it short.

Firstly, it is an icredible car. reminds me of driving my old rubber bumper MGB. You gotta respect it lots but fear it just a little. I have never had my foot more than 3/4 the way down, still trying to sum up the courage. When the rev counter hits 3K and the variable timing switches...phew!

Secondly, I think that the feeling of ownership and support you get with these cars is amazing. I have spent literally hours on the phone to Luke at zcentre and Jeff at zworld. Wonderful people. thanks to all for being so supportive to an amateur like me.

Okay, onto the question(s)

1/ My Z feels slower during the first 15 miles or so of each trip. Seems that the variable timing is not interested until the engine really warms up. Is this normal?

2/ I tend to keep the revs below 3k, keep the auto box in hold a lot and generally just enjoy the car. I also think that I`m saving the engine in this respect. Am I utterly wrong? Do I need to give the old thunder some stick?

3/ My injectors seem a little noisy and make this weird buzzing noise when at rest. I`ve used injector cleaner about 3X and always fill her up with shell optimax but to no avail. Is this something or am I a paranoid nut?

4/ Think my boot gauge is screwed. Putting the foot down half way sticks it into 7+. How far does your foot have to be down before the turbos start operating?

Ok, that`s all for now (!) Thanks for any advice.

I think that the slow running when its cold may be down to safety boost, from what ive heard standard uk zeds do this to stop you booting it on a cold engine, mines jap and mine will let me boost all i like when its cold, not that thats a good thing!

As for the gears, i just leave mine in drive with overdrive off and only put overdrive on if i would have used 5th in a manual, I never bother with the power/hold button if you whack your foot down the power light comes on automatically.

Are you sure the buzzing noise isnt the fuel pump? They buzz.

The boost guage generally goes up the more you put your foot down, but i know there are other factors aswell, revs, pressure etc, but it doesnt sound like you have a problemthere to me.

My final bit of advice is that if youve only put your foot down 3/4 of the way is to go out and floor it!!!

Thanks

Just getin toooo paranoid huh?

I`ll sum up the courage (someday) and I`ll get the fuel pump looked at. THX again!

I dont thik theres owt wrong with it, i think they just buzz.

You can hear mine when you turn on the ignition, but after that the exhaust sound drowns it out.

As for the feeling sluggish for the first 15mins. The car almost turns down the power of the car while it is warming up to prevent it getting damaged while its cold.

The boost gauge should go upto 9psi, but as you said you havent floored it yet. I suggest that you try it a few times and when you get used to it, look at the turbo gauge when you do. Dont take your eyes off the road while you are going at warps speed ;)

All sounds okay to me.

As for the comment about lack of power when cold, I wouldn't even think about using the Zeds power until the car is warm, and I mean the oil not only the water, and yes it does stick in SB until there is some warmth in the engine.

I would perhaps question the way you and B19rks use the auto box (and no, I'm not preaching, just commenting). I leave my jap auto in drive 95% of the time, if the car was meant to be driven on an everyday basis for long periods with these selected, the warning lights for Hold and Power would be off until they were switched on, in fact the reverse of the way they are - think about it, it makes sense.

The definations for both the Hold and Power functions on the Japanese Auto have been covered many times on this group - try the search function.

yes, the car is in safety, sorry, STANDARD ( ;) ) boost when cold (7psi) you only get full boost when its warm.

the standard boost gauge is well known for its innacuracy, so for a true reading you need an aftermarket one.

just 1 thing:

reminds me of driving my old rubber bumper MGB

are you taking the piss!!???? :D

nah, think yo think I`m drawing the wrong analogies. What I mean is that if you did not respec the rear end on a Z, you will loose it.....just like on the MGB.

Only difference is that you could lose it on the MG at anything over 25mph:D

LOL

Everyone knows the Triumph GT6 can kick the arse of any MGB :D

Relax guys: This rivalry runs deeper than the Auto Manual debate!

No offence Jen, just having a laugh.
