Recently purchased a consult cable which has the consult connector and a usb cable to attach to the laptop.

On having a look at my consult port it seems the wiring has been modified, I assume this has to do with the switch that someone installed that allows you to check for ecu error codes if you turn the switch on.

I am not sure what wires should be conncted to the consult port but I do think some may be loose, not connected.

I purchased the full version of nissan datascan, when I initially hooked it up, it worked, I could see the ecu and also check the engine parameters and all was well.

Later I tried to connect again, but since the initial connection it has never worked, but I also noticed the consult port seems looser and not as tight as before which leads me to believe some wires may be loose/not connected as I explained earlier.

So, is there any way I can test it to see if it's working? Or can someone show a wiring diagram so I can see what wires should be attached to the consult connector on the car, and in what order?

Thanks guys.

and this..

I extended mine and moved it to the glove box for easy access.. (and yes there are more wires on it than in the diagram.... due to the harness it related to)

good luck.. :)

On the com port connector, it is possible to briefly bridge out 2 of the connectors to activate the diagnostics mode.

Bet that a pair of wires have been connected to the appropriate wires at the back of the com port plug and run to a toggle switch to make activating and checking codes easier.

The com port connector is located on a bracket that holds it in place, but it does slide off this bracket to make connection easier, its (slightly) tricky to slide it back on, bet that's why it feels loose.

To check the wires at the com port, get your head under there and have a look, it should be clear to see if any thing as come away. Removing the kick panel to the right of the pedals may help, but shouldn't be necessary.

As for DataScan, make sure your additional switch is 'open circuit' before trying your laptop - if unsure disconnect the switch and make sure your ignition is on.

You say you've already had your laptop connected once successfully? Is this with the recent Consult cable purchase, because my recent purchase required an additional driver to get it working.

I ended up getting the seller to send me a replacement because I thought it was faulty, then bought a different eBay cable that also didn't work!! I was convinced at that point my com port was duff, but it was just a laptop driver issue.

I got it to connect with the cable and laptop that I have now, it was connected in the morning all ok, but then after the cable/connector felt looser it didn't work.

I plan to have a look around again tomorrow, hopefully it is something easy to resolve.
