The one that worked for me was....

But this is just a cable to connect to your laptop. There is some free software with it, but I decided to purchase the full version of Nissan DataScan which is pretty good.

The full version of Consult is much more expensive software, obviously better, but consider if you really need it and how often you might use it.

I think Nissan DataScan is all you will need for most issues.

When I first got mine, I couldn't get it to connect to the car. Another driver was required that wasn't supplied on the CD.

Might have just been my laptop, but if you have problems, let me know, I'll send you a copy of the driver.:)

Think I will give one of these a bash as well.

Consult is a bit dear so I was also considering the Data Scan as it has most of the functions.

Would you guys mind reporting how you get on with these? I will need to get one soon and was planning on an ECUTalk lead but they're about £50.....

I got one of those (from a US based seller) and ended up returning it. On my 1993 TT it would not read the vehicle speed, it caused a HICAS error code, and put the car into "high speed steering mode" which reduces the power steering assist so you really needed 2 hands at low speeds.

Did not matter if the computer was connected or not, and you had to cycle the ignition to put everything back to normal.

Apart from all that, it worked just peachy. You will need to download drivers for the FTDI serial-USB chipset, all they put on the disc was the free Nissan Data Scan. You can get them here- http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm

Update.

Cable arrived with a cd that was no use.

Downloaded the drivers mentioned above and it worked once.

Never worked again though.

FTDI the company that makes the software has now changed all their software so that the "clone" chips from China no longer work as they have banned the chip PID.

So I returned my cable and have instead ordered a cable from ECU Talk which uses a legitimate FTDI chip so will work ok.

I'm sure the Chinese boys will find a workaround but I can't be bothered with the hassle.

Thanks for letting us know Daz. Yeah ebay cables do seem like to much hassle hence why I'd decided on an ECU talk cable as well. What did it set you back?

I'm in the process of arranging a group buy discount for the ecutalk cable.

Not sure on prices yet. Rrp is £65, so I'm hoping to get them for around £58

I have the old blatz cable. Been working well for many years. I'm sure there was a write up in the past on how to make your own
