Hi guys,

Now i know this will be something of a known issue.

I had a noise from my rear near side and noticed that when i went around a left hand corner the noise would stop, i self diagnosed a wheel bearing?? Any thoughts? Not diff oil BTW!!

So, ive got a replacement wheel bearing already pressed into a hub. so ive got all the items off from the rear wheel.

The wheel, the disc and the centre bolt, the hand brake bits and bobs, Which by the way i may need a diagram to reinstall.

What im left with is the four bolts at the back which i cant get to because the drive shaft is in the way. It should just slide off with a bit of encouragement surely?

I've given that bad boy more than a touch of willingness to leave its seat... not a touch of movement.

I've got a bearing puller on at the moment as tight as poss.

Im told that i need to tap the end of the shaft... i didn't want to hit it too hard in case of damage.

Any information, suggestions diagrams or the like would be greatly received... ive spent nearly three weeks trying to get this bearing out... starting to grip my S@@T!!

Thanks

It's not easy, I did it with a 12k electric/hydraulic press at work. Mine was more fun because the splined part of the axle shaft was frozen to the hub. It would not budge no matter how hard it was hit, heated or sworn at. I had to pull the entire knuckle off and use the press to press out the axle shaft. Hopefully you don't have this problem.

You will also need to be careful pressing the bearing off, most likely one part of the bearing race will stay stuck to the shaft, you will need to cut a slice in this and chisel it off. Be careful not to knick the surface of the shaft. When you are pressing it back together make sure it is going back perfectly straight.

The bearing is the same for both sides, one pin can be moved to either side depending on what your parts man gives you. I found nissan to be the cheapest price, but I get wholesale so it may differ for you. It's an expensive bearing.

Unless you are fairly compitent or have access to a daily driver I would suggest you have somone help you out or bring it to a qualified shop.

i got my knuckles out, undone the 4 bolts and hit it with hammer, then it fell out. fitment is reverse of installation minus hammer.

Finally today ive managed to remove the damaged wheel bearing and hub. Not a straight forward affair at all. The hub was completely jammed on with minor rust and heat from the bad bearing. It took a huge amount of effort to remove but finally after three week or more, its off and ready for the new bearing...

I couldn't get to the 4 bolts because it was just frozen solid so lump hammer and force took over, hitting the edge of the hub as close as possible to avoid damage elsewhere. It took me and a very experienced engineer over and hour of continued hammering with a very heavy duty bearing puller in place to get the first glimpse of movement.

Its done, reverse imminent and hopefully have a rolling Zed soon.

Flipping heck, sounds like a right nightmare.

Glad you got it sorted in the end.
