whats the best paint to use for scuttle and the trim that runs from the front window across the roof and to the boot ? want is satin black not matt will you need a primer to make paint stick to scuttle

Featured Replies

The trims that run over the roof, and down sides of windscreens are metal.

You'll need to sand/scrape all old paint off (it's a rubberised paint from the factory).

You can either use plastidip straight on the metal.

Or if you want to paint properly you'll need to use an etch primer first.

For the main scuttles, if you have the cash then buy new ones. They'll look 100 times better than any painted ones.

Otherwise make sure you sand, prime, paint. Any halfords spray will do.

Though paints4you paints generally have better spray nozzles.

Remember thin layers - less is more!

I see is it a bugger to get the rubber paint off

Hi Dan i got some plastic primer and satin black paint from halfords to do mine and they came up sweet. Did the wiper arms too. I washed em in hot soapy water then rinsed with lots of cold, dried them then wiped over with panel wipe and finally a tack cloth before spraying. 1 coat of primer 2 coats of satin black.

Carbon on mine also so no fade or cracks in years to come.;) Think I seen a carbon set for sale on ebay.

They were a CF set on ebay although they were "factory seconds" still went for nearly a £100 though!

they look great ian looks like new

they look great ian looks like new

They did dan, took me about 2 hours all in , the wiper arms were a pain though I dowsed them with nitromorse and took them righ back to bare metal and etch primed them before spraying satin. Hardest part was washing all traces of the nitromorse from the spring in the back of the arm, (boiling soapy water and a 1" paint brush, creates some interesting fumes though so beware) !!!!. Worth it in the end though.

I used Ford Graphite grey on mine. It is a pretty close match to the original colour that is on the mirror flitch.
