OK after the success of last years drive through of the Blackpool illuminations my fellow REO (and the welsh one too lol) had a chat today and decided to do it all over again!

This is most certainly the last chance to come out and play in your Zed before the onset of winter so what better excuse.

The date this year is Saturday 18th October

The plan is to meet at the Blackpool Premier Inn at the South Shore - just a few hundred yards from the South Pier

This has a large secure and free carpark, and importantly no speed bumps

Also this means that we can start the run through the illuminations from near the South Pier rather than having to queue for several miles like we did last year

I would suggest we do the run a lot earlier this time (say 7pm?) and instead of trying to run all the way to Bispham we run up to the big roundabout a mile or so after the North Pier and turn back round there and come back down again

This means we will be mostly in the busiest part of the resort therefore more folks to admire our cars lol

After party at the Harvester pub which is attached to the hotel

So who is up for it this time round then?

And would you like to stay at the Premier Inn for one or two nights or just come up on the evening?

If we get a list together soon we can prebook rooms and possibly get a bit of discount.

If there is enough on the Friday night we could do a mini-illuminations run then too just for the fun of it (it's much quieter on the Fri night)

Hmm. Well I did say give me a couple of minutes to get sorted and don't go without me. By the time I got out of the parking space you had all disappeared into the sunset!!! Then I couldn't find how to get onto that road I was supposed to go down. Finished up stuck in traffic so I got on the prom further north and went south hoping to pass you but I didn't. Nevermind, try again next year!

Hi mandy i was sure your headlights were behind me in the car park so when i got to the front i assumed you had joined on at the back.

by the sounds of it you probably got through the illuminations before us we had to queue on the south approach for 2 hours or so. It wasnt till we got to that road i noticed you were missing. Sorry hun ill buy you a big bacon butty next time. It was really nice to see you and all the others inc kidda in his new zed and very nice too. In all it took us 4 hours to get to the north pier and then turn round and get to the hotel. Way worse than last year it was really busy. It was that slow Grays wife had time to jump out of the car run into pizza hut to use the loo yhen come out and get back in the car 20yds up the road.

Ah. Not the end of the world then. Probably wouldn't have been in very good shape if I had to queue for that long.

Honestly Mandy the traffic was dreadful this year - enough so to force a rethink if we do this again next time!

I take full personal responsibility for you not being in the convoy when we left the hotel. Ian was up front and I was in the centre. I had said to you to move your car out so you don't end up at the back, and thought you had

But it is no excuse. We pulled over for a minute at the Petrol Station before leaving and all it would have taken is for me to step out and count the cars. Or for another matter I should have been the last off the hotel car park and at the back of the convoy

SO this total cockup for which I sincerly apologise has at least caused Ian and myself to have a good talk last night about how to make sure it does not happen to anyone again.

Including ideas such that:

everyone gets the mobile phone number of the convoy leader before we leave

we have a group chat first so everyone knows where we are going

we make a predicision who is going to be at the back of the convoy

Ian and me are talking about getting a cheap set of walkie talkies (can get four handset ones) such that the leader, last car and SOME of cars inbetween get one each and personally I am all for making that happen, In fact it could add a fun dimension to next years meets if we all had one!

Sorry that I never had any experience of organsing this sort of thing before, and doubt Ian had either until this club made us REOOs so it's a big suprise really something didn't go wrong before! But now it has happened the best thing we can do is learn from it.

Like Ian said the traffic really was awful this year and only two of us out of seven completed the whole trip taking around four hours! Julie and me needed a bottle of Red wine when we got back!!

On the plus side dispite the traffic a numb butt and a dead clutch leg it was good fun once again.

Best quotes of the evening froom passers by:

Your car is beautiful

Whoa that car is sick!

Julie particularly liked the eloquence of the next ones description of our car, near the north peir

'Cool as f#ck'!!!

And my favourite overheard comment (courtesy of Ian)

'Wow, what is it Dad?......... 'Those are Supras son'':lol::lol:

Yeah nice to meet you too kidda

You are living in one of the most active regions for Zed meets - so there will be plenty more coming up next year

Nice car by the way :thumbup1:

Mandy - I can vouch for Dicky when he says he felt awful for losing you and I felt bad too when I found out we'd left without you.

Despite the traffic it was still a fun night and I'd certainly do it again next year :)

S.

Yes sorry we lost you Mandy...and you did say to us all could we wait a bit so you could get your self sorted..typical men no patience just leave the girls behind:(
