Exhausts

Which exhaust gives the nicest tone? And how much difference do they make to power - negligible or material?

Also where does one go to source these? First time I've considered a new exhaust so completely clueless!

Iv'e got the SE pipes on mine that came with the car but I've never really liked the sound. A bit too quiet for my liking unless I'm gunning it and even then I don't really fancy the sound they make.

Can only remember FunkySi's Veilside pipes and they sound pretty good. What'e everyone else running?

i had a japspeed one great value for the money and sound very nice once there bedded in. the centre piece is joined so you get the 6 cylinder roar I have mongoose system now not as load but don't have the nice 6 cylinder roar as the centre section isn't joined,

Any vids / clips of the sound they give off?

And from your post I'm assuming that a joined up mid section is better? Any draw backs of it being joined up?

the japspeed system comes with the mid section joined so its ready to fit. I will have to join the mongoose system in the a few weeks to make it sound better.

I'm gonna say the Veilside ones too if you can find them for any kind of reasonable price. I have vids of mine on YouTube too

I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:

All depends what you want and how much you want to pay. Performance wise despite avid claims you will make few to none gains in terms of horsepower on just the exhaust, if your pushing for more power it can help and change the delivery of that power. Less lag etc but if you dynoed the same stock car on stock boost with two different systems I doubt you would see much difference in most of them.

I've got a japspeed system from the turbo back, it's a nice bit of kit esp considering the low price and I wouldn't say it's too loud. The mongoose is what I'd fit if you liked to retain the stock feel and sone subtleness. There are some fantastically loud systems available from America but the cost is obviously more. Think there was a 3" megan system for sale in the uk on ebay a few weeks back bet that would be noisey.

Well changing out the stock exhaust on imports will remove the restrictor rings the factory put in.

is there are restrictor on the uk cars? I take it its one the cat section

Yes there are. Iirc they are in the centre section at the back box end.

ye am with you now.

I have a Japspeed, it's quite nice. Sounds good at idle, doesn't boom on the motorway, but quite quiet when spanking about. I sometimes would prefer a more raspy note on WOT, it's a bit bassey as it is.

1. Veilside Evolution on 1 of my TT's. As said in another thread, the build quality and fitment is without comparison. Sound is exceptional. Only downside is the weight- approximately 37kg for a catback (based on freight costs) and price.

2. Zees Cannon catback on my other TT. Fitment isn't too flash, only lines up with 1 hanger per rear cannon. Only the cannons are SS. Piping and centre muffler is mild, and the centre muffler is prone to rust. Considerably cheaper than the Veilside. Sound is comparable to the Trust system.

3. Custom system on my NA, consisting of 200cpsi SS cats, UAS SS 3" twin in-out centre muffler, reduced to 2.5" piping and then Magnaflow SS 2.5" inlet, twin 3" outlet rears. Having tried a veilside evolution system on an NA, found that 3" piping was simply too large, and the drive was unbearable. Magnaflow mufflers are pretty good quality, and a good solution if you don't want to go J-spec route

Depends on the zed, I've 3 exhausts in my collection, japspeed, custom and a hks super dragger

I had the custom fitted to my tt sounded amazing Imo just right, then it was on my na, was far too loud, and had to come off, the japspeed on my na is good, bit raspy at points but I like it, haven't ever fitted the super dragger as it looks to loud for me
