Oh wait, memory stirs, here's one from the 1977 University of Surrey Rag Mag:

After the Kinsey Report, Oxford University scientists spent 3 months and £200,000 research into the purpose of the knob on the end of the male organ. They concluded it was to satisfy the man during the progenerative act.

Then Cambridge University spent 6 months and half a million to conclude it was to satisfy the woman during coitus.

Then Surrey University spent 35p and a busy afternoon and decided it was to stop your hand slipping off.
