So after all this rediculously humid weather, I wanted my air con regased as I've been sweating my b0ll0x off.

Took it in today and I had a feeling they wouldn't be able to do it but thought, worth a try.

They told me it was running ILLEGAL c12 gas and so I weouild have to go to a specialist to have the whole system replaced!?

What is the true story and where can I get it regassed (in essex/suffork) as I can't live without my air con!

R12 is illegal in the UK.

Your system needs converting to run R 134a.

 

You will not get it re gassed anywhere with R12.

How and where can this be done and how much will I be looking at?

No idea on price. My car is a post 95 so already runs r134.

 

Call up some local air con specialists and they'll be able to advise you.

If you via find somewhere that does it r24 is a drop in replacement for r12

Hi mate beaware r12 use diffrent fill fittings than r134a i had the same problem had to buy converters of ebay ,think r12 are tyre valve type and r134a are push fit type.

As mentioned the R12 and R134a connectors are different. I got mine changed over years ago (10+), and also got adapters via eBay at the time. It is push fit for R134a.

Hopefully have it sorted now, just gotta wait a little while now until I can enjoy the icy blast behind the wheel again :)

Hi mate did you find a drop in replacement for r12 did you have to change the connectors over to r134a type also did you find a place in colchester to re gas I need mine refilling too thanks .Also did you get a engine cover in the end I have one in the shed you can have for free if you want .
