Recently my brother purchased a Super charger from Australia for his 3.0r Legacy.

Just over a week ago his engine seized, over course there was lots of leg pulling about how he must have fitted the SC unit incorrectly or something similar. Anyway having just hot off the phone to him I was amazed to hear what has caused his engine to seize up. Now I have heard of CATS collapsing, but when my brothers collapsed the engine sucked up the debris and it passed through the EGR valve and end up against the exhaust valves! No wonder the engine was seized solid.

Needless to say that he will be seaking professional advise on this, before contacting the manufacturer.

Would be interested to know if anyone has heard of this sort of thing happening before.

Moral of story, EGR delete! :) I'm glad your brothers pet cat is ok.

How would deleting the EGR have stopped the engine hoovering up his CATS?

Surely if the egr would have pulled bits in it would have thrown it through the inlet manifold,

There's a link from the exhaust manifold to the inlet manifold,

to re burn exhaust gases so it should be pulling them into the inlet,

Unless it was on boost and the egr was faulty, cause surely if the egr was open then the boost would be going straight out the exhaust,

I've never seen a cat damage valves but im sure anything can happen,

Hope u solve the problem...

Good news! my brother has got written confirmation that the company who supplied and fitted the CATS will be paying out for a new bottom end from Subaru, and having the top end rebuilt with new valves etc. Along with supplying him with a hire car until the rebuild is complete, plus monies for time taken off of work whilst getting engine to the garage and associated time off work.

Anyway it makes a change for the average man in the street to win against the big boys..... it didn't get to Court,.... as they realised after seeing the engine stripped down and hearing the engineers report that they wouldn't win
