my TT has a habit of squeaking at the slightest sign of damp, drizzle or rain. Changed out all brake pads, removed ac compressor...no joy. Any ideas?

Also, read somewhere that the pad shims are not always required? Is this true?? I've put Euro Carparts Pagid pads on...with greased shims.

Your post reads that you think it is brake squeal, but then you mention the ac compressor? Damp is one condition, but

when and what driving conditions does the squeal occour?

Brake squeal and compressor were guesstimates tbh....happens every time there are wet or damp road conditions.

Do it happen at all speeds/acceleration?

Does it happen when driving on perfectly flat roads? Or only when on rough/potholed roads?

Any particular area it sounds like it's coming from - Front/Rear/Left/Right?

Give us more information to go on ;)

Comes from front. All driving conditions. .sometimes goes away when I speed up..other times when I come off the gas..other times when I flap around with the steering....all speeds from 1mph upwards gets faster as I speed up.

Sounds like a belt slipping.

Did cross my mind. Similar sound but more definite pronounced short bursts.. I'll get it checked tho, thanks..

Maybe check the AC belt tension pulley. Quite some year ago mine went, and it initially started as a 'occasionally loud squeal' (for a short while - then it was fine again). Happened more and more frequent until it gave up completely (seized - bearing internals in bits). It was intermittently not spinning, and then gave a very loud and awful sequel. From memory, car had about 105-110.000 km at the time.

Have recently replaced again as 'preventive maintenance', since it is about 90.000km ago when it gave up.
