And so it starts, the joys of owning a Z, elation to depression in 3 days, my windscreen has developed a huge crack on the passenger side,

It just appeared as I was driving, me thinks there must have been chip, but it started down in the corner where all the discs are displayed

somi may have missed it. So a couple of questions please

Are lwb and swb the same windscreen?

Should 95 jap import be bronze tint?

Would you fit a secondhand screen? Yes I have fully comp. With windscreen cover, but the insurance is just 3 days old. Thank you in advance

All windscreens are the same size,

Not sure on the tint,

Yes I would fit a secondhand screen as long as it was much cheaper than a new one.

Trish, yours will be a blue tint. I wouldn't waste your time with a used screen, new ones from National Windscreens are only about £150 fitted. You'd about £50 to remove and refit a screen. Often they break anyway and the cost of a second hand screen is about £50-£75.

A brand new screen isn't much more. A brand new screen is also a LOT nicer than having an old marked screen.

For the little they cost, I wouldn't bother with a second hand one. If you have windscreen cover, even better! Who cares if your cover is 3 days old, you HAVE cover, use it legitimately.

The story is a little different for bronze screens.

I think the Bronze tint is for Japanese imports and the Blue is for the UK models.

Not quite true. ALL JDM cars from late 94 onwards had blue glass. In addition, all saphire blue JDM cars from 90 onward also had blue glass.

There is an after martket bronze tint screen that is readily available.... I had to get one !

Trish's won't be bronze. It'll be blue.

Thanks all for replies, Simon you never fail, your like a walking wikipedia of the z32, because i would have presumed all imports were bronze,

I just feel guilty for making a claim already, I shall investigate costs tomorrow, but what you guys forget, usually what you pay for parts its double over here

Don't feel guilty for making a claim - it's the whole reason you have insurance. Make sure you claim, it's why you have glass cover. Now I have glass cover, but I swapped ALL my bronze tint for blue, my bronze glass was unbroken and unmarked, I didn't claim a new screen, I paid for it, but if I'd had a crack in it, I certainly would have claimed.

I have a Sapphire Blue (TK3) 93 JDM, and my glass is all bronze tint.

Was a pain when I years ago had a vandal damaging a side screen, and insurance was about to replace with blue tint glass (that would not match). Sourced glass myself (that insurance agreed to pay for), but if you use insurance company, make sure that they will do not just point to a glass company that will put in the wrong tint. Double check what they will supply.

What colour interior does yours have? Sapphire blue should have come with blue tint glass. There may have been some spurious models from Series 2 onward that came without the blue interior and thus fitted with bronze tint - every sapphire blue (TK3) I've ever seen has had blue tint glass.

Just to point out AGAIN - Trish's cars is definitely blue tint.

Blue interior. The car is an 'early Series 2 car' from what I understand. I e.g. had the 'old PTU' (replaced years ago - as it packed up as anticipated), but I have front seat belts in pillar (not in door). The car also has aluminium bake calipers (not cast iron). I believe that the production date is sometime Q4 1992, but car first registered in 1993 (and here in Ireland carry a 93-plate).

It's one of those spurious cars with different series' spec, a bit like Harby (Kev's). Generally, cars with TK3 had blue interior and would also have had matching blue glass. There are mongrel series (can't think of another word) during series changover where different specifications appeared to what you'd normally find. Your car is a rarity!

TK3 here with blue tint glass, but not a blue interior.

Although mine is a base model (slicktop) so probably the crappy interior of mine was standard.

Dreading ever getting a crack in my windscreen as the roof trim will likely break on removal and you just cannot get them new anymore without serious work.

Zed #2: 1998 Midnight Purple 2+2 NA. (owned 2020 - now)

Zed #1: 1995 Blue Slicktop NA (2013-2015)

That's horse shit and IGNORE Autoglass. Autoglass repair - Autoglass rip-off. They give ridiculous pricing on new windscreens - check your local windscreen place, a small independent or someone like National Windscreens. I had an 08 plate Civic a few years ago and the screen went on that, got a quote of £800 from Autoglass - took it National Windscreens and had one fitted for £120. Pilkington and its subsidiaries are now the ONLY manufacturer of windscreen for the 300zx and the SWB screen is the same as the LWB screen.

To dispel any myths also, there are only a small handful of manufacturers globally of automotive glass and they all supply direct to the OEMs.

Have a look here -

If you can do the 70 mile trip to Belfast then you'll find a National Windscreens there. http://www.nationalwindscreens.co.uk/regional.aspx?city=Newry

I dropped a line to Pilkington to see what they supply (as I am most likely going to take screen out to sort a bit of rust that is coming up at a spot around screen atthe end of season - and then consider to change screen).

What they reverted back to me was that the following is available for the Z32 (price is what they quoted me a few days ago and is excl VAT and for pickup at one of their depots - delivery for additional charge).

Code Tint Price (£) excl VAT

5982ABL Blue £240.69

5982ABLBL Blue with blue shade band £246.41

5982ABZ Bronze £242.07

5982ABZBL Bronze with blue shade band £266.44

5982ABZGN Bronze with green shade band £313.80

5982AGNBL Green with blue shade band £249.20

Leadtimes indicated as being 4 - 6 weeks, and glass made to order.
