As there are many for sale on the net, new & in box. Which are ok & which to avoid.

All the snoopers we're familiar with, but what about the Uniden, Valentine & the Cobra ESD 9850? & more are advertised.

Because they seem to be the same spec on detection for £30-£400 for the same model! Depends who's bidding or pledging. And of course who's seen it.

Or should i but the Snooper S5 from Comet @ £179.99 on offer at the moment?

I think the cheaper ones are more prone to false alarms and have a smaller range of detection. I got the S5 from Bob and it works a treat. I know some people say they dont work but it beeps like f**k when i approach a camera so thats good enough for me. Strange thing is almost all the cameras in the North East are turned off but there is a lot more cameras active when you venture down south. Maybee were just better behaved up here ;)

I want one,Its next on the list.

But f*ck knows which one to go for:(

Snooper?

Charlie Angel? like Craigs?

I have a Bell 980 and it's superb. I think it is exactly the same unit as the Snooper S5 rebadged.

One thing to remember is a lot of them are designed for the U.S - the new Bell Euro range is set up for here and actually says motorway instead of highway which pissed me off bigtime on my old one!

I had a Uniden detector a few years back and it was cheap but absolutely useless - it basically pointed out the camera flash in your rearview mirror!

My aunt recently bought a Bel Euro 550 which is generally regarded as the best overall detector. Can be had for about £350, and is the successor to the Bel 990, brother to the 980.

now that i've been using my road angel for a few months, i really like it :D

i have only found 1 camera that wasnt in the database

i can silence it temporarily when it starts beeping for a camera

it also has known accident blackspots in..

this started to get on my nerves to start with, as you see the warning, see its "just a blackspot" not a camera, and ignore it...

but when you look at the road, you see why it has been included, and makes you a lot more aware :D

apart from its size, i think it is the dogs danglies, and combined with my jammer.....

They do work and are especially useful at night when you are less likely to spot a camera.

The other big hassle more and more is that they are great at detecting mobile phone masts because the microwave relay transmitters on them often beam along roads as roads are usually the obvious paths between hills etc. Also automatic service station garage doors and shops. I am not sure if the sophisticated ones can discriminate but my 715 snooper cant. So some places are so flooded with microwave radar that the beeping is incessant.

On balance would still rather have it than not especially on the "open" road when you might be tempted to over do it..

Not sure of the model number but the Bel one which you install in the dash with separate sensors is really good. I used it for a year and was well pleased. Also, with very slight filing, it fits into the clock hole in the dash of the Z and fits in very nicely.

I think it may have been the 915i but the model was improved I think and given a new name. Bob will know.

Dave

The 9850 is a good radar but for that price the s5 is better

:)

The reason i initialy asked is because you can get any of the above mentioned gismo's from auction sites all over the place!

Canada seems to be quite popular & they post to uk twice weekly ish.

But as prices go it seems to be to good (suspisious me)!

ie: the cobra goes for 30 -80 quid new in box - depending on who's bidding etc. Over here couple of hundred i guess. Haven't seen an ANGEL on there yet though.

The bell one, is that the one with the little box of sensors that clip to the r/v/mirror?

As Iain said we gotta get one but which?

Maybe 'Bob' would enlighten us with an - advice note:)

The bell is very good...had it just over a year. Had a snooper before that and found that it wasn't as good as the bell.

I go with Seb on this one. Have been looking round for one for a while as the one I have is 3 yrs old and doesnt always pick up now. By far the best is the Bel Euro 550. and plenty of surverys show this. Check out pistonheads.com or speed-trap.co.uk for some results.

I hope santa's listening!!!!

I pretend to work, they pretend to pay me!
