Hi everyone. New member her from Northern Ireland! After years of want I'm finally in the position to buy a zed. However id love a few questions answered before I take the plunge. Unfortunately not being very mechanically minded I'm worried about possible problems/upkeep needed. Being in Northern Ireland are there any good places that are experienced in servicing and the mechanics of a 300zx if anything major goes wrong? Thanks guys.

Hi Bri and welcome to the club. Good to see another member in N.I. and if you are after a 300zx then you might have to search on the UK mainland as there is none for sale here that I know of plus if you want one with no issues then you have to buy a good one. There are a few garages over here that can work on the 300zx but only a few. One of them are SNJ Motors who are outside Saintfield http://www.snjmotors.co.uk/

What kind of 300zx are you after(TT NA SWB LWB) and whats your budget?

Thanks Gary. Yea from having a quick look here doesn't seem to be too many members from here! And yea I'll be happy to go to mainland to pick one up. Really prefer a largely Unmodified Lwb. I'm picking up the theme that the NA might give less issues in the long run? Was hoping for around 2500 but again seem to see that I'll need to got to 3000 for a decent one. Any tips on buying them considering I've only basic knowledge of mechanics would be hugely appreciated.

Hi Brian and welcome to the forum from another newbie. These cars in my limited experience have issues and to some degree because of the power of them, tend to be thrashed more than other cars of the same vintage.

The sills at the bottom of the rear quarters are very proned to rust, as are the arches and the inner cills near the floorpans. take you time and go over them very carefully. I've had two and opted for the na for that exact reason you've said and they aren't that much slower with a 60 mph speed limit !!! ( in second).

Mechanicially they are good. coil packs and the wiring to them tend to give issues. Heating Hoses are forever letting go and causing issues, so again for a few pounds do what I've done and changed the ones around the back of the engine. A few engines have had major problems but reading the threads on this forum, its nearly cheaper to buy a second hand engine, rather than get into a load of work for the ordinary road use car.

Best of luck finding one but as Gary has said, better choice on the mainland as very few come up for sale. If a member on here was selling one, I'd tend to go for it as most are genuine and have had a lot on money spent on them getting the gremlins sorted.

Thanks folks, Yea Gary that sounds good, cheers. Can I access the for sale section here? Doesn't seem to let me.

Managed it now dunno what the problem was earlier. Is there something obvious I'm missing in the below add or is the price average for that spec/mileage? Seems cheap to me?

Its a non turbo with a twin turbo front nose but thats ok. Still looks very cheap and that would worry me but the only way to check it out is to view it and thats the problem for us on this side of the pond.

im thinking of changing to a manual swb. know a guy down south sellin one so theres a 'small chance' id let mine go to a good home. its a black 92 tt 2+2

Hmm wonder if the missus would agree to postpone the wedding! Is the engine mod'ed much? Would be worried about insurance. But would love to get one here and not travel to England to find out there's a lot of rust of something!

no mods to the engine, all the oils done recently. classic insurance of £130 a year. 07989357768 if u want a chat bout it
