anyone in Coventry?

After selling my Zed about a month ago, I've been kicking myself everyday I have to drive to work in my gay little C2 vtr.

So have been looking for another Zed, and think I've found one! But its in Coventry.

Was hoping that there was someone who could possibly go and look at it for me to make sure its not swiss cheese.

Well, I went to see it and it wasn't there. Apparently it's "having some work done for the MOT - nothing drastic". He said it will be back tomorrow so I'll visit again on Friday to take a look if you still want me too.

Chris.

Did you manage to get a look at the Zed today mate?

I went, but it still was not there. I'll next be driving past on Tuesday and will have a quick look then if it's back. I get the feeling it's having quite a bit of work done.....

I reckon you may be right mate.

Thanks for keep trying, think I'll have to give him a ring to find out what's going on with it.

Just spoke to the bloke, it did fail the mot on the inner seals.

They are being welded up at the moment and he's going to let me know once he has it back, might be worth taking a magnet to make sure its not just bodged with filler :)

I am prepared mate, although if its actually been replaced with metal instead of filler then it won't matter as I have a plan (In the voice of Hannibal Smith)

Sorry to say this mate, but I would prepare yourself to walk away. It's very likely to be a bodge job. This kind of job requires meticulous detail and as it's being sold, no doubt the seller will not want to pay for that.

I have to agree with the above, having done both sides of mine.

A good repair would probably cost several hundred pounds, something I can not see him doing.

Trouble now is, you will not be able to see just how bad it may of been.

To have been an mot fail, it must have been quite advanced.

I have been thinking about this to be honest and am definitely thinking of laughing it off.

Maybe I'll just have to wait and save up a bit more till something else comes up.

I appreciate all the help everyone has given and offered though!

Can you have a look for me again to see how well/bad the repair was done please?

I can visit on Friday at lunch time.

I did.

Firstly it's very standard. Has remote locking

and stereo added. Think it's a DVD player but i could not turn it on.

Engine: Everythings where it should be and i could not see anything missing or out of place.

Boot: spare wheel, tools, blind/cover is there and there is also a car cover.

Outside: dull faded paint, except for one door which is a different shade of red.... MOT repair patch on the rear sill (they said it cost £150 to repair):

but of rust on the rear arch on the drivers side too but not rotten.

Wheels are corroded but reasonable tyres

Brakes were standard and dampers were standard type. They were yellow and i don't know what colour the standard ones are. From what i could see underneath, it was relatively clean.

Inside i would describe as tatty. very worn everything.

Speedo clock looked like it's had a cheap aftermarket backing and it touches the needle so it can't reach 0mph. Think this is a Jap Spec car...(no emergency flare)

So what does not work:

Wing mirrors won't adjust and only the passenger folds in.

No Air Conditioning

Radio

Test drive.

Surprisingly OK. brakes are fine, upshift is fine. No Prop bearing wobble. There is a bit of rear shudder when you pull off fast but i think that may be the sub frame or diff bushes. fan belt squeals until its warmed up but engine sounds and feels fine.

Can't comment on the power as i've only driven TTs so dont know what it should feel like. Sorry!

Overall for under £1200 it's a working 300ZX. Its no show car but could be a project. Hope that helps abit.

Thanks mate, excellent review and description.

He has offered me a straight swap for my c2 and although the Zed is a bit of a dog I am seriously considering it.

If there is any way I can repay you for your help mate, just let me know.

Im sure it can be tidied up with a few hundred quid thrown at it.

actually 1200 quid for an NA in that state is a bit much !

That's what I'm thinking, my heart which is suffering zedlessness says yes but my brain keeps telling me no and that is far too much for that shitty heap.
