May 25, 201411 yr Changing the rear subframe and diff to an NA one, what is changed and what is removed in the engine bay? Also what wiring is removed from converting an auto to a tt?
May 25, 201411 yr If your converting to the na pump etc in the process, you will need the na PAS pot, pump, pump bracket I think that's it... You don't need to replace the wiring, you need to mod the loom that goes to the box from where the hicas solenoid is there plenty of write ups, this gives you reverse lights. The starter relay needs to be shorted out, I think there are various ways to do this but I simply cut it out and joined the two blue cables, you will find this relay under the drivers side wing, remove the plastic splash shield and its sat there. Then you have pin 44 on the ECU to earth via the neutral switch, this sorts out the timing. The base idle will need to be reset as there is less mass on the drivetrain at idle therefore it will idle high, again theres good write ups for these things. Check the continuity of the neutral and reverse switches before installation of the box makes life easier. My reverse was stuffed so I utilised the switch off an xtrail I think it was, available from euro car parts for about £18 :D HTH
May 25, 201411 yr as steve said if you convert to a N/a pot and pump you can remove all the crap on the RH inner wing, or the left wing as you look at the picture. The Pas pot will be obviously replaced with one like that just less outlets. wirings wise...not much
May 25, 201411 yr Author Can the thing next to the pot be gotten rid of. I'm gonna get a new engine bay wiring loom and a new gearbox loom if that helps?
May 25, 201411 yr The hicas solenoid? Yup that can go, along with all the hicas pipework. You should have three pipes on the na system. One hight pressure line from the pump to the rack, a low pressure line from the rack to pas pot and a thick 26mm? Line from the pas pot to the pump.
May 25, 201411 yr that vac line going back past the LH brake line can go too, thats the carbon canister vent to the top of the tank.
May 25, 201411 yr Author Is it possible to remove the loom that runs around the front and down the wing easily?
May 25, 201411 yr the passenger side yes, there is 2 connectors in there which you can disconnect in the passenger footwell, and then just undo the fir tree cable ties.
May 25, 201411 yr Author the passenger side yes, there is 2 connectors in there which you can disconnect in the passenger footwell, and then just undo the fir tree cable ties. Is it worth it? Does that one not have a replacement being sold new? Is that going to give issues as I wanted to go new for all engine bay looms
May 25, 201411 yr im sure if you contacted wiring specialties they could provide you with one, but id hate to see the price. I haven't touched mine in my build as its big and cumbersome. i have only cleaned it, however next time i strip it i plan to make my own as there is just so much necessary wiring there.
May 25, 201411 yr Author I'll leave it then and hope it's ok, but the previous owner liked fiddling with wires and wire cutters. I do have a spare if it comes to it
