Some of you may know I have an FB page documenting my progress, but since a few don't have/want FB, I'm going to start uploading pics here too as I get time.

As I've said before, not competing this year, time is being focussed on family and home projects, both of which I largely ignored last year! I also enjoy modifying and developing the car as much as driving it, so can tinker away at it through the year, so don't expect fast progress.

Open for discussion, criticism etc :)

Finished cutting the metal out the rear, had some brackets made for the rad & dry sump tank, and had the cage knitted back into the rear shock towers

and test fitted the IC again after emptying the bay, just to make sure I didn't mess something up :)

There's a large boxsection under the floor between the shock towers, and the top of the tower has had a strengthening plate welded on top and knitted to the base of the cage. It's not going anywhere.

Nice work James! Just come back from Jimmer's and saw your transmission sat on the transmission jack. Into the paintshop soon isn't it?

James I'm loving the progress. I'm very interested especially in your intercooler setup? Where did you get the intercooler from?

Car has been dropped of at bodymech today, should keep them busy for a few weeks!

Gary - intercooler is a tdm works item in a customised location

Cool thank you, do you reckon a setup like this with rebuild auto turbos would give any advantages over stock location?

are you going for the tdm works front mount turbo design?

I love engine bay front mounts :D

It may not look very clever, but that there was the most powerful stock 1809cc CA18DET in the world at the time with 382hp @ hubs.

Gary, I think it would benefit any set up over the stock location. Whether or not it would be worth the financial outlay, that is only something you can decide :)

I would think so, shorter piping will always be better. You would need to move lots of other things to accommodate though...

Now to start stage 2 !

IMAG1830_zpschm6f4g8.jpg

Why....? I guess you no longer need all that open space for radiator air supply and that will be suffucent for intercooler supply? So less holes, more aerodynamic?

  • Author

Exactly, the FMIC only needs the smaller opening, the others will also be closed up, but not smoothed as it'll need some lines to avoid looking too odd. Purpose is to reduce drag

Stage 2 is making it wider to cover the tires properly

Stitching back together with fibreglass.

Will pop some filler on it then set aside as I need to work on the tailgate that's finally been delivered. It's an oem one to replace the fibreglass one I damaged

Here's a hi-res cropped image from Brands last year, taken from straight on. You can see how much front tire is exposed, and I intend on running a wider track when it's put back together again which would make the problem worse. I also don't like how the wider wings have to pull in sharply to meet the bumper so this should let me fill that bit out.

The other item it highlights is that the exhaust system was the lowest part of the car, so the new one will need to be tucked up closer to the body so I can drop the car even further

How it looks after first fill and rough sand, lots of work still needed!
