To my disappointment the garage who has my car cannot read the codes even with the correct plug. Anyone else had this issue? Coming to point now where I'll just scrap the car as its driving me nuts!!!

They connected it to consult and it did nothing? Or what reader I'd they use?

That reads from the ecu iirc so if nothing happens there's either a broken wire or 2 (or bad connection) or the ecu is dead ( or not getting power etc)

What is the fault?

Have they tried the self diagnostic function?

The ecu is fine. Ive done a self one and gives 55 no errors. Trying to find out what the issue is with gearbox since changing oil. The conzult on the drivers side footwell is what they used. 14 pin grey socket....

Consult should have read something with connected...

But just read your other thread about you box, I had a similar problem with my old tt, wouldn't get above second, tried new oil, had it plugged in at work ( I work for nissan and had the master techs looking and laughing at it ...) in the end I changed the box for another I got off a member on here, worked perfect after that.

Might be someone with a sparebox going cheap, they aren't that hard to change tbh

So your saying its the box? I have tried almost everything and the diagnosic was the last resort before a different box. There's a guy on here that may sell one ....

It was the box on mine, and changing the box isn't as much a big deal as it sounds I did it in a morning, admittedly I was using a ramp at work

They were laughing because most nissan garages don't like 300's lol, mine in particular had a history of them coming in and being there for a long time, I get nothing but stick for driving one and they think it's great when it arrives on a tow truck lol,

I can feel your frustration mate, but dont go scrapping the car over the gearbox issue, especially if everything else is spot on with it.

If its not the gearbox ecu or main ecu trace back the wiring for the box for the sensors and inhibitor, relay fuse board.

It may be a solenoid in the box, or a couple of wires chaffed or shorting. I know you have probably tried everything, but go over it again methodically before changing the box, oh and find someone who knows what they are doing, the consult has a separate part for the AT and if they only have the trial software may not be able to access at all.

Ive tried everything I can myself and with a mechanic friend. Run out of garages here ro be honest. The only option left for me is nissan or a gearbox mate

Ok. Anyone here got a trailer and wants to earn some money towing it to JeffTT?

Ask A local company to see how much they will charge to deliver your car, then when its done get the train up and drive it back :thumbup1:

Or also try Jimmer who is closer to you and is a zed engine specialist builder :thumbup1:

Jimmer? Who's he? Yeah its so frustrating its unbelievable the car has spent more time in garages than I've actually drove it. Im not even gonna think of how much ive spent so far.

I'd second that get a specialist to look, form experience people like Jeff are a much better source then nissan.

I work for the oldest dealer in the country, techs with 25+ years of nissan but they are definitely not zed specialists...

I still think it's the box, but there are alot more experienced members then me on here.

What you have to bare in mind is the z32 is not a Renault Clio, production wise genuine uk models are in the top 20 rarest production models nissan have sold here. They were never a "common" sight for the dealers, therefore many of them not only haven't had to work on them, most of the techs are too young to have had the car new on the forecourt remember and often the question of what's that is returned? Or they only know what they think they know, it a big old jap car that isn't a skyline. Some main dealers don't even know it's their car...this leaves you no better off than leaving billy down the road and "Dave's auto shop" or whatever to work on it. When your paying people who don't know these cars, you are paying them to learn. You don't want to pay billy to learn and don't be fooled that some keen hobbyist is mechanic. You want an expert, with years of experience, relivant experience, and all the tools they have acquired for specific ways to do things correctly. You can "learn" on it yourself, an expert has already learnt.

You can rent a trailer or a beaver tail (one of those transits with a flat car bed in it)for the day if that works out cheaper, as an actual tow company is often more expensive, so look into that option. As Grover said though jimmer is highly regarded not just as the best/only expert z32 engine builder in the UK but a damn good z mechanic generally. Depending on what part of Devon your in he may not even be very far away. Jeff and Jaime are up at zedworld, its a fair old jounery from you but again they have years of model specific experience.

Please don't scrap the car over an auto box issue, people often give away autoboxes. I threw an ok one in the bin 2 years ago as no one wanted it, it just needed a torque converter. Maybe you could spend some time researching a manual conversion, it won't be cheaper but it will transform the car into a sports car.

A few years ago, my car ran like a pig. Itvwas at a local "specialist" for three weeks, and still càme back wrong. They couldn't fix the problem, nor the raft of issues caused by some idoits who again decalired themselves specialists. Jeff had it running again after 5 minutes, and spent the next few days sorting out most of the issues, I still had to pull the block the next winter even after jeff had worked out 99% of the gremlins, I had a budget to stick to, so it was a case of get it running, to un earth the full extent of the orginal poor quality if work.

I appricate that's not very well written, it's just gone 4 am and its been a long week.

Hi mate, I said that in anger. Ive spent far too much money on her to just bin it. I see Jimmer is it Bristol which is only 90 miles away so will give him a call tomorrow. One more thing during my swapping of groovers ECU when I put mine back im wondering know if the ecu dial is still in diagnostic mode... if it is would that then not communicate with the plug in diagnostic? Just a thought. Also one more thing while im still up scratching my head, im assuming that when the ignition is first turned on the check engine light comes on briefly then goes out? Or does this mean its in self diagnostic mode and should be turned the other way?

Thanks to everyone that has helped and left input on this post.

Leeroy mate: I got my Zed in June last year and me and a mate (who's very mechanically-minded, admittedly) did the full manual conversion in 4 days, with neither of us having ever worked on one of these before in our lives!

Swapping an autobox for another one would be much easier than the manual conversion, but the conversion does transform them, as Z32bolt said.

The engine side of things is undoubtedly a nightmare to work on but the transmission honestly isn't as daunting as it might first appear. Just stick in there and either let a specialist work their magic or tackle a gearbox swap swap yourself, and you'll no doubt fall in love with her all over again! :thumbup1:

Hi mate, what is it I need to do this if I wanted...... assuming a manual JDM gearbox , and a conversion kit which I take it u get on ebay?

I used a "How To" off here, and a few phone calls to Luke at Z Centre. The hardest part I found was getting the auto bearing out of the back of the crank - that took hours and hours! But there's apparently a way to remove it using grease and a bolt.

If you wanted to go the manual route, it's probably worth putting a Wanted ad on here rather than automatically buying a "kit" off the Bay. One thing to make sure of is that whatever kit you bought comes with the manual balance bar. I still have the auto one on mine and it means you can't connect the TT clutch boosters properly, making the pedal quite heavy.

Your ecu would have reset after being out of the car and no power, not sure about the pot position in the ecu, something Jeff can answer, as said it sounds more like a box issue, blocked solenoid or part of the wiring, but more likely solenoid/s if all you did was change he gearbox oil.
