If this has been asked before please gforgive me but I am a Newbie to the forum. Can anyone help.:helpsmilie:

While my car was undergoing new injectors I got the Z mechanic to swap over the low beam headlight bulbs to xenon ones replacing the stock bulbs. Really wished I hadn't as the light emission is diabolical! - like driving on side lights.

I have been advised that I should try E46 with eom 4300k d2s bulbs these are usually fitted to BMW's. Now,.... I am a complete moron when it comes to bulbs/electrics {and a few other things too it must be said} but apparantly the cooler {blue-er} the light, the less light it actually throws, putting it in simple terms. But apparantly this E46 etc etc is a lower something or other {told you I didn't understand} and is still a blue light but is much more efficient at actually 'lighting' . I found these on Ebay which allegedly shows the difference. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380337416472?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

My question is: are these bulbs appropriate to fit into standard stock lights and fitting or... does anyone recommend a xenon bulb which actually lights the road properly and what is it?

Really appreciate any help as its a little scary driving with these lights at speed.

Just fit universal hID kit, H3 or H4 (depending on whether your car is an import or not).

4300k will give you the brightest output. Do not go over 6000k. It looks terrible and will give you a lower light output. Advisable to give the ellipsoid lens and glass a really thorough clean before installing. You'll need to remove the headlights for this.

A thorough clean will help anyway.

As for the link, avoid, they're for specific fitment, and the connector is that for a BMW. You'd need the full kit which include ballasts etc.

....can I also get one thing confirmed; are you suggesting that you've fitted HID/Xenon bulbs and they're worse that standard bulbs? Have you definitely had a full kit fitted or has your mechanic merely fitted xenon-blue halogen blubs? Something is seriously wrong if you've fitted the full HID/ballast kit and they're worse....

Need confirmation whether you've had these fitted:

.....or in actual fact, you actually have these:

I suspect he just fitted the bulbs without the kit but I will have to take them out and have a look myself {You know that they say if you want something doing..............}!

Very many thanks for such comprehensive and very helpful advice. I'm going to like this forum!!

The two should not be confused; you can't fit Xenon/HID bulbs without ballasts. The 'Xenon look' are just halogen filament lamps tarted up. :)

Just to confirm as there is a little confusion crept in, if your fitting a full zenon kit you will need to order the H3 fitting, this is the same be it a UK or an import model, if changing stock bulbs it remains H3 for UK cars but H3C for imports.

From experience the H3 6000K kits are just perfect, get the ones with slim ballasts as they are easier to hide them away and do the earth mod to ensure they stay on when main beam is used.

Si as kindly put you up a link for UK stock at a competitive price but I carry a stock of a few kits and will do it for slightly less at £26.50 delivered.

I offer the correct H3 fitment for the lows/dipped, 55w and the perfect colour imo at 5000k.

Welcome btw :thumbup1:.
