Right, I'm looking into this with various insurance companies and will be available to valid club members (so get your money to Craig).

Firstly, Craig was dealing with a guy called Chris from Bickley Insurance. He has agreed to look into a club scheme but has asked if anyone needing a quote in the very near future to send him a mail with all the details - chris@bickleyins.com and he will get you a quote. If you do contact him, can you send me a quick mail letting me know how competitive he is, so I can keep tracks with him.

Secondly, does anyone know which companies already have schemes set up for other clubs. Craig told me that Dorset insurance now do the MR2 guys, does anyone know of any others? If you do know any others, do you know what they offer to clubs?

Cheers

Vijay

Jadine Faber 01604 611 700

Classic Club Direct who when I phoned them on behalf of a member they said that they would insure a 21 year old on a classic policy thier no is 0800 611 700

Don't know what thier rates are but at least they insure under 25s on classic policies

Hello guys,

Does anyone actually know if any club benefits from these insurance companies???? All I seam to be getting is people saying the same thing which is they will offer 15% discount and to get people to call them and they will see what they can do.

Vijay

A discounted rate or a specific policy for a particular club with agreed coverages, if you are really lucky and have a liot of members to offer them business with, is all you will get from an insurance broker.

I have heard (maybe earlier on this thread) that some club schemes just give the club a tenner or something when people sign up.

AFAIK there is no way that a club scheme can always undercut the market. Insurance just doesn't work that way.

Some schemes offer agreed valuation so cuts down hassle if people have to claim - which could be handy for higher value / non-standard cars.

I agree. An insurance comany can not be cheaper for every one. So even if we had 500 members to get a deal some people may be able to get insurance cheaper somewhere else.

Ok, I'm gonna get a lil emotional on all of you, and say... I can't believe what a top bunch of guys n gals there are in this place.

I'm not much of an internet person, and rarely go surfin etc etc, but I actually love loggin on to this site and readin all the posts...and the helpfull camaraderie actually brings a smile to my face.

OK enuff of that bullc**p, now time to whinge... all you t*ss*rs keep me from my work. I find myself spending more time on here than I do putting my effin film together!

If I don't end up getting a zed (due to insurance) I'm really not gonna feel fully part of this site.

Re-reading my post means I should apologise to Vijay and everyone who has put up suggestions. What I should have said was it is well worth trying for "benefits" from a club insurance scheme. They might not be the outright cost benefits we would prefer but they might be something nicer than what we get at the moment.

So my point should have said it is worth trying but (because all insurance companies are b'stards) and we'll get something but we should not expect Vijay to come up with a company who will agree to insure all our cars for £4.50 + VAT.

I meant no disrespect to the worthy effort.

Gio mate, no probs. Your totally right in what you've said. The only benefit is the £10-15 pound back which would go back into the forum........................I just hoped I could get something better. Still got a few numbers to call, so will do that and then post again :)

Vijay

Thank you Mr Vijay, Sir.

The agreed valuation thing might be worth asking about - if you haven't already.

When I was in the MGOC (gasp, shock horror) they had enough (60,000 or more) members to run their own club insurance broker. Even this couldn't beat every deal. It was good, for sure, but could not be 100% cheapest 100% of the time.

But, for those who wanted it, it did offer agreed value. So (apologies to grandmothers and eggs) if you had a car which was "better" than the average, a few pictures and (sometimes) a letter from the club meant you could insure your pride and joy for an agreed value above book.

There's a hell of a difference between a stock car (which might be worth £4k in the book) and a modded one of the same age / mileage but which has had £10k's worth of mods on it. Unless your insurance co has agreed the value in writing before the claim, you're stuffed.

This even applies to the question "how much is it worth" when you get a quote. If you say £10k you will pay a premium based on £10k. If you are unluck enough to lose it, and claim £10K, the insurance co will look up the book value for a standard car which may only be a fraction. Unless you have agreed value which some club deals canoffer.

Oh dear, here comes granny and another fowl embryo.....

"AFAIK there is no way that a club scheme can always undercut the market. Insurance just doesn't work that way."

I don't agree.

This is how I see it... when you phone around different agents they give different prices for the same insurance company. That's because they all charge different comission. If they get a lot of business they get more comission and can discount if they want it.

Yes Jez, that's how I think it works (but I'm not a broker so don't take my word for it :) ).

Two points - just about every insurer has a different profile of risk and hence cost - that's one of the reasons we all get such widely varying quotes whenever we ring round. But not one insurance company will always be lower on all quotes.

And with brokers, you could undercut them all by charging no commission at all but then you wouldn't make any money so no-one does this.

I think that's what I meant to say but I blame the red wine (Waitrose Good Ordinary Claret which does exactly what it says on the tin)

Cheers - Gio
