I have never really believed that drivers of one make of car are any worse than another - sure, we all joke about BMW/Audi/Volvo drivers etc, but in my experience the majority of those displaying the poorest driving skills seem to own an MPV. Please note, I am not saying MPV drivers are bad - I know several people on here drive one due to family needs etc - hence I worded my statement very specifically...:wink:

 

Nor am I saying that my driving skills are anything special - but I try to keep out of other peoples' ways and, when someone else is in my way, I simply pass them at the safest opportunity and with the minimum if fuss (I do have 2 fast cars...:lol:)

 

But here's an example of what I mean - yesterday we took the ZX out for a nice trip to Sussex for the day. I was flying along some nice empty country A-roads; yet naturally slowed down for the towns and villages. Through one village, I was pootling along at 30 when out of the blue I was suddenly being aggressively tailgated by someone driving a stupid Toyota Verso thing. I carried on my merry way, observing the 30 limit when he decided to overtake me - on a zebra-crossing - whereupon I saw he had a few children in the car!!

 

Hey ho - I ignored it and carried on. But a mile or so later, on a dead straight and empty 4 mile stretch of road with a 60mph limit, I caught up with the idiot, still doing 40mph. Without fuss, bother or inconvenience to matey-boy, I simply indicated and breezed past on my own merry way once more. Yet this idiot still felt the need to blast his horn and flash his lights several times at me, as I disappeared into the wide blue yonder??

 

Like I said, some people... And if said Verso driver was someone here, simply acknowledging another ZX driver, forgive me for not responding - I was simply concentrating on my driving:wink:

If I was you rich, I would have taken his number plate and reported him for dangerous and careless driving and demanded the police prosicute the driver.

This may seem pointless as chances are the old bill will do nothing, but you would be wrong.

when I was 17 and dangerous behind the wheel of what I thought was a Ferrari powered rust bucket escort, I did similar to what the people carrier did to you.

The owner of the car I passed reported me, which in turn ended me in front of the driving courts who stuck me with 5 points and a charge of dangerous driving.

Obviously I'm not proud of it, but at least the police pulled their heads out their arses and did the right thing!

Some people just don't like being behind anyone, I don't know why. I had it the other day I attempted to make a perfectly safe over take of a focus doing 40 in a 60. Rather than living with this instead he moved into the middle off the road to block my path and slammed the brakes on, I didn't panic (never do, it's not a good thing lol) and used the available space to stop myself colliding with him, he then accelerated and wouldn't let me back on the right side. I was forced to give up by that point and merge back in. He then resumed his 40mph.

I regularly get people under taking me after round abouts, I'm indicating left to move back in after passing a lorry etc, when honk some idiot is weaving between the lorry and undertaking me. How they don't get that I can't see you when your impatiently trying to undertake me, I don't have rear a veiw mirror it's a van stupid. rather than letting me move out your way as per the indicated signal I'm giving.

People moan about white van men, honestly though being a slow white box people show you no thought.

A friend of mine had a similar issue using a filter lane, the guy chased him down the road pulled in front of him and tried to block him in. Then got out with a baseball bat. My mate managed to zip round and get away. The shocking thing was the bloke had his kids in the car!

 

Some real psychos out there as well as complete brainless idiots.

There are an awful lot of idiots out there on the roads these days, very dangerous people that always seem to involve innocent careful people in their accidents.. There's barely a day goes by without me seeing some stupid driving skills being displayed.. :no:

Yep, I often get stuck behind morons hogging the 3rd lane on the A1 at Peterborough. Boils my pee that :mad:

I regularly roll down the middle lane passing people doing 60 in the "fast" lane. What they are overtaking in that lane I dunno because no ones using the middle lane.

I'm sure some men in people carriers feel they have something to prove. Despite having their brood in the back they still want to show they still have 'it'!!

I had an issue with a local Taxi driver..... He tried to cut me up on a roundabout and overtake me on this small single lane roundabout....

He then tailgated me flashing and hooting me to get out of his way till the next set of lights..... He kept going out on the wrong side of the road as to overtake then saw the bollards and islands in the middle of the road and came back in behind me....

He was literally 1 to 2 feet off my rear bumper and I had my 5 year old, my 20 month old and my wife in the car all doing the required 30mph....

I turned right at the lights and so did he tailgating and trying to overtake for another mile till the next lights, where he got into the right hand filter lane, suddenly realised and tried to pull into my drivers door to get back over....

I refused to let him and made him again pull in behind me.....

 

After these lights he drove on the wrong side of the road to overtake me.... doing about 50 in the process, overtaking 50 yards before a zebra crossing.....

He then has to slam on his brakes as he nearly mowed down the nice couple crossing at the time and skidded to a halt missing them by inches......

They were not happy and made a few gestures at the idiot.....

 

I then followed this moron to the next set of lights where he got held in traffic and I got out of my car, by this time my wife was worried what I would do......

I walked up to his window and asked where the fire was, he looked confused and said we are going to a funeral and running late. I asked why he was driving like a complete **** and he replied,"you wouldn't get out of my way when I was flashing you!"

It was at this point I leant into his car took his keys out and dropped them down the drain next to his car and just said, "Your going to miss the funeral before you cause someone else's!"

Got in my car and casually drove off waving at him staring down the drain........ The first time I EVER thought of a line like that on the spot.....

Much better feeling than screaming abuse and getting aggressive...... My wife just sat there mouth open and said nothing......

My 5 year old asked,"why did you throw that mans keys down the drain?" and I said, "because he was driving dangerously and could have hurt someone!"

My son just went "Oh!" and carried on with his DS.........

Nothing else heard about this.......

Love the taxi-driver one Tom; Allan, that's a waste of good Stella, matey; Mandy, you are dead right about some men in MPVs - it is generally men and usually they are the really nerdy types - but they still seem to have a complex about another man of similar age to them, who happens to be driving a sports car, as opposed to an MPV!!!

I am finding now that some stupid driving is caused by foreigners driving on our roads - not tourists over from France/Belgium/Germany/Poland so much, more of UK registered vehicles with foreign drivers who have different rules. Like yesterday afternoon, going onto the M4, the Indian-type chap in front stopped at the bottom of the slip road in front of me. Now this would make the most patient of drivers to wonder what the f the chap is thinking, especially as there was little traffic and a huge gap to safely pull into!

I did swear at him but I don't think he gave a monkeys. Those sort of drivers I stay well away from.

Lol, we ain't never dun seen dem forgins, Ase we Greg. There's a world of idoits, arseholes and combinations of both out there. I can spot the city drivers who live their driving life at a max of 30mph and cannot navigate an A road for toffees. I do recon we should remove all the sign posts though so all them city types get lost when they come round here.... Haha
