Well guys, I have managed to secure a good deal to get the sill repairs done and have that issue put to bed. Ive noticed driving her that the odometer and trip isn't going up. The previous owner said when he brought it to the mot last Friday morning the speedo stopped working. he turned the car off and restarted it and all ok. It has had a black box fitted behind the clocks for the kmh to mph conversion he said!

Is this an easy fix or what's gone on it.

Thanks

Derek

That's good news mate :thumbup1:

The speedo issue is more than likely caused by a faulty kph to mph convertor. They are notorious for causing grief. Just remove it and the problem will more than likely disappear.

Is the speedo needle working? if this is then the delimiter is ok, the odometer and trip plug into the back of the cluster on a separate plug maybe worked loose.

Hi Guys, the speedo is working fine so assumed there was another unit for the mileage and trip recorder. Will get it pulled out in the next few evenings

Is it to due to the age-old trick of a fuse being pulled so the mileage doesn't go up?

There is another 300zx-specific issue regarding the odometers....

Irrespective of whether UK or J-spec; converted to mph or not..... Sometimes the odometer and trip-clock do "stick" with age. They are mechanical and there is a fix somewhere on the Aussie forum IIRC. My old red ZX developed the same problem at around 80k miles - on a long journey, the odo and trip clock would stop clicking over after about 100 miles into the journey and would not begin working again until after a few hours rest!!

It's not uncommon Derek:wink:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Both of mine do it, usually after resetting the trip

Quick fix press the trip reset a few times, keep trying this till it works, dont press it again ever

Long fix, strip it out and clean all the ground up plastic , dust, hair and biscuit crumbs out of the cogs
