Ok done a good few targa drain tech threads but last week with a poorly zed showing lots of electrical issues and auto gearbox issues it all looked very connected and with the trusty camera on hand all was soon revealed.

The auto box was not changing gear at all well, first to second was a huge shift at way too high revs, a previous check on the ConZult revealed a very high reading on the TPS ( throttle position sensor ) that could not be altered what ever adjustment was made to the tps, this would cause the gearbox to be receiving conflicting information, the car horn was also not working from the steering wheel but would intermittent start sounding when the car was unattended.

So passenger side, very quickly found the targa drain was detached and had been allowing rainwater to flow all over the main connector blocks in that area, pulling the connectors apart revealed green and corroded pins.

A very difficult area to work in and a sore neck is guaranteed the next day!! after cleaning the pins with WD40 and the air line blower I sorted the drain pipe so the same issue will not occur and a test showed we now had a good tps reading and a smooth auto box once more.

Great thread. I had a leak that side, water was running down the kick panel, seems to have stopped now though. And the targa drains were clean and attached. But I'm gonna have a peek at the connections on mine. They could well be corroded as well.

Jeff,

when re assembling, would you recommend an appropriate grease?

Or are they best fitted dry so as to save any shorts travelling through the grease?

Dielectric grease, plenty options on ebay.

Afternoon.

Just sorting out this issue today - passenger side. I can't reach the targa drain outlet from underneath (the bit in Jeff's picture). I guess I need to start removing things? Anyone got any tips on access, or pointers to other posts?

Thanks

David

Try and get someone who is flexible and has small hands, real pig I dumped the black piece and used hose pipe fitted exactly. I will eventually replace it. Lol
