No upgrade as such (ie jwt ect) but Brain, Mine, ECT do units, its just finding out how to get hold of them.

Jim Wolf DOES have an ECU upgrade for the '96 models (since recently)...costs $750

or you could choose for a LINK ecu, which completely replaces the stock ECU.

Thanks guys for the info, does anyone know if an Ecu from an earlier zed be used?? know it might seem a backward step but you never know...anyone tried it?

I seem to remember reading that the cam profiles on the 96+ Z's are different than earlier Z's..

I have a feeling that the reason was that OBD II was introduced (two O2 sensors, one before the CAT and one after it), and that they regained the power that was lost due to emissions code through different cam profiles - of course that could just be US Z's. I've not been lucky enough to get my grubby mitts on a 96+ Z (anyone want to donate one? ;))

ROM Editor can address the later 512 Kbit EPROM... so you could make your own map. I haven't looked that these ECUs yet cos I heard they weren't that common.

Apparently, you could pull the entire ECU out and stick an older (8-bit) one in (they're supposedly edge-connector compatible), but if the cams are different you'd maybe wanna optimise that map anyway.

This could all be bollox of course. I make it up as I go along :D

First off.

OBD 11 was never made for the 96 J-Spec zed.

Only the USA received this. Not sure on Euro Spec.

Yes the earlier ECU's will run quite happly in the latter Zed's

Bear in mind though the latter J-Spec Zeds lost the AIV & EGR systems so I'm not sure if the earlier ECU's will have any effect on this.

My Zed is 11/94 J-Spec TT, Replaced ECU with an 89 model unit (Trial firmware) & everything went fine.

To my knowledge only JWT do a 16bit version upgrade although "HITEC" in Aust will be doing R&D on my ECU in the next few weeks.
