Hi Guys

New to this so bare with me guys !!! NEW to Forums NEW to ZX's (But LOVE these cars already)

Please help if you can. I have a 1992 non turbo,

when purchased it used to change gears quite hard (just the 1st to the 2nd) and would only change at about 3000rpm.

had the transmission oil changed and the Halfords machanic put too much in it. but the car was still doing the same.

took it to Zedworld (great guy) advised me to have the loom check by an auto-elecrician and get rid of some oil.

But due to work being so busy I have not had the time to do anything. So the ZX was parked up for a week, but I took it out yesterday, and found that the dam thing will not change gear until it goes to just over 5000rpm.

I let it warm up and still was not having any of it.

Does anybody have an idea? or am I thinking the Autotransmission Gear box had it. Do I need a new gear box? Where can i get one from?

any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Gary

Halfords did drain but did not change/clean the filter. An auto electricain has asked me to take it back to Halfords and ask them to drain it and change the filter before going to the wring route.

thanks for the reply. much appreciated

So I think getting the oil drained again but this time making sure they change or clean the filter is my next step before letting the auto electricain loose.

where to purchase a filter? Guys?

really appreciated.

Hi Ziggy, welcome to the forum. I can't add any more than the lads have said above, get the auto transmission filter/strainer cleaned. Ever thought about going down the manual route?

Hi 300zx_666

This is my first Z it came as a P/X and I have quickly fallen for it (ZX's) cant believe the drive for an old car. and yes I have thought of a manual, actually quite quickly as after the first drive of this thing, I thought I need to have a manual as i like to be in control.

so hopefully, after sorting this one out abd getting rid , I will be looking for a TT manual.

Hi Ziggy, since I spoke with you I have had another zed in with the same wiring fault, the fault blocks the reading from the throttle position sensor which means the autobox controller

(and engine ecu) only see`s full open position even at tick over, the autobox ecu works on the basis your accelerating hard and so hold the lower gear too long.

When checked on the diagnosis the tps shows a constant high reading that does not change even when the throttle sensor is adjusted, with no way off setting the base setting at closed throttle there is nothing that can be done until the issue with the wiring is first resolved.

So moving on where your auto spark guy needs to look is the passenger side under the dash above and to the left of the ecu location ( passenger foot well) there is some connector blocks in that area, these can become corroded and wet from a leaking targa drain pipe that has failed, the corrosion is the root cause of the problem as it is shorting across circuits, rain or washing the car can make it worse, on the odd occasion it may even dry out and be ok

Hope that helps
