Having installed a 3D tv in my newly decorated front room, i decided to do away with my 5 speaker and sub surround sound for something a little neater looking so bought a sound bar, its an LG nb2520 wih built in sub woofer, but the bottom end although very discreet doesnt impress me much and even though the sleep timer is off the bar turns itself off every now and again, which is bloody annoying.

Im going to either add a sub or upgrade, just waned to know what everyone else was using and your thoughts on the best set up.

A friend of mine has a Bose solo, cost around £300 but too bulky for the shelf i have under the TV, but does sound great.

What are you using and how do you find it.

Cheers

We have a Yamaha sr301. It's a couple of years old now but it's good, as long as its set up right

Ive read the manual to take the sleep timer off and have done what it said and still the same

So does the sound bar by-pass the TV speakers or does it add too it?

You cant use the speakers in the TV when using the sound bar, there is a delay, which no matter how much adjusting on both the tv and bar, you cannot get rid of it lol

Its a nice sound, dont get me wrong, but feels it lacks a little oomph in the bottom end. I watched the new Star trek movie last night in 3D and the soundbar performed well, but not enough bottom end rumble for me, i like it to be clear and punchy, not earth shattering, but just seems to lack a little.

I use the Q-TV2 system which has a stereo wing speakers adn a rear slim sub built in, I haev sold and insatlled many of these and I find the sound quality at all levels superb.

The speaker system bypasses the TV speakers which are cr**p by comparison, it's ideal as the system can be used as astandalone speaker syetms for parties etc when we plug in an ipod dock.

They use to make a speaker bar with back surround sepaekers adn comact wall mount sub, thes speakers were proper 3 way channel units with cebntre left and right and could be adjusted on a sliding rail to accomodate any TV size from 40"-60", far better then the thin sound of most "Bar systems", I've still got one in the warehouse that i used to use which i would be happy to move on if it's of any interest.

Alternativley consider the new SONOS speaker bar option, makes mincemeat of the BOSE version.

What kind of TV did you buy?

43" Samsung 3D plasma with active glasses

Considering you bought the samsung tv why not go for the samsung hw-f750 sound bar with built in sub

Trouble is Ian, thats more than i paid for the TV lol i have my old sub still from my old set up, just need to work out and output from the sound bar as there are no optical or hdmi on my old sub set up.

Ooh didn't realise it was that expensive didn't notice the price when looking at it lol you tried the LG Nb3530A seems good for not that much

Im still looking for something at a reasonable price, the sound bar is fine and the sound is good, just lacking bottom end and no outputs of any use for connecting a sub, so may have to upgrade to the next model up.

I had another nightmare over the last couple of days, trying to wire up tv in kitchen with hdmi from the sky box, but using a hdmi splitter does not work from a skybox, due to hdcp protocol, so reverted to the old way of rf out  picture not bad though and its only on in the background.
