This is not your usual car for sale item - I'm sincerely looking for advice, rather than trying to flog you lot my car (For one thing, I expect most of you already have one!). I doubt I'm unique in having looked out the window this morning and thought 'I know it's a great car but, I need the money, and it's not very sensible...' For me this has been inspired by the fact that I'm losing one job at Xmas (Seasons greetings - thanks a lot!), and its looking like the next will be in the mountains. (Whilst this is the perfect car to commute 700 miles in many respects - its fairly expensive to run, and a bit silly in the snow and ice! I will be gutted to see it go, but I'm looking at it that I've been lucky enough to have had one of these in this life - glass is always half full...)

So I'm after the benefit of your experience. I've obviously sold cars before, and I know that this is not the best time in the year, and I know that the prices in the papers seldom match the descriptions, and can be wildly optomistic - so thanks for any well meaning comments along those lines but...

To the point then:

1. What is the considered value for a UK 1992 (Turbo) in very good condition, with minor power modifications (350bhp), but completely standard appearance (quite a few miles, but very comprehensive history)? I know what I bought it for, and I know what I've spent on it since (more than I paid, but don't tell the other half!!), but I don't have a clue what it's worth in the market place....

2. Anyone out there just bought one? If you don't mind me asking - What did you pay? What were the key selling points of the one you bought etc?

3. Anyone out there broken one recently? Will it break to more than it will sell for? (I love it it but money's money!) Is there enough of a demand for the bits that you can quickly get rid of enough of it to be worthwhile?

4. Anyone out there sold one recently? Which publications? Best strategy to reduce the (skint 17yr old) muppet factor? (Or is that just an Essex thing?)

5. Anyone out there sold cars from e-bay? (Looks too good to be true - do the buyers come up with cash for instance?)

Thanks in advance for any advice that you can offer.

i bought my 1991 jspec twin turbo in august with 17 inch wheels and a s/s exhaust for £6200 from a dealer and i think a uk model is always worth more and the first place i lokked when looking for a 300 was the auto trader. i hope this is some help to you:)

thanks

Z's seem to be holding steady at 4000 for 90 to 92 and around 5000-6000 for 93-94. If in good condition.

It is not funny how we all want to buy a 4k bargain but when we sell want a kings ransom in return.

My view`s have changed somewhat since dealing with so many zeds through the workshop the last few months,

CONDITION,CONDITION,CONDITION!!!!!! first last and everything.

Ok a nice shiny 92 or 93 example with nice wheels and a throaty exhaust looks cool but as mentioned elsewhere it is no good if mechanically it is in poor condition because soon you wallet will be too.

So as selling value`s are concerned be honest with yourself and if it does need some work doing value it accordingly if it is mint through out again value it accordingly.

My view on pricing very briefly (There always exceptions too)

G to H reg

Mechanically and cosmetically good

£5750 to £6750

J to K reg

Mechanically and cosmetically good

£6000 to £7000

L to N reg Mechanically and cosmetically good

£6950 to £7950+

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

G to H reg

Mechanically and cosmetically poor

£2500 to £3000

J to K reg

Mechanically and cosmetically poor

£4000 to £4500

L to N reg Mechanically and cosmetically poor

£5500 to £6500

Of course this is very basic and some might feel the prices are unrealistic but are based on what I see and how as an average across the country when buying watch out when selling be honest.

Jeff TT

bought mine in march this year.

L reg, 84k miles, UK TT, FSH, very clean inside & out, standard apart from nice set of 17" alloys, manual.

paid £7k which i thought was fair for the condition.

Hi Jeff,

One thing that makes a difference is if it is manual or auto, since the rarity of UK Manuals makes them worth a bit more.

I searched high and low for a decent UK manual and a good one for sale only comes up a few times a year!

Ok Thanks to all who replied. I'm going to fix the A/C and try and sell it for £5K as is, or £6K with new tyres and tax. FYI this has been very usefull decision making exercise for me, as 5 was my 'if that's all it's worth I'll need to find somewhere to keep it' point.

Obviously if anybody wants it get in touch. I've had my moments of despair with it this year, but the last months it's been flawless - I'll not be ashamed to sell it to anyone who knows me. (In it's defence the only problem I've had is the A/C, and given that I yanked a lump of vauxhall door mirror out of the rad we can hardly blame Nissan engineering for that one!
