Any ideas how how much it will cost to have the outer sills welded at a garage please. My z failed the mot today on corroded sills on both sides and and also corroded centre chassis rail.

Depends how much metal needs replacing, quality of job you're after etc. Huge variations depending on just how much needs going and how far you wanna go with it. A small plate could cost you £100. Complete new sills welded both sides, prepared and painted could cost you £500-£750. You'll need sills fabricated by a good panel beater as they're not available amymore.

By the sounds of it, your rust sounds extensive, so you may have to dig deep.

I had mine done at the beginning on the summer, and they were pretty bad! Outer sills, inner sills, rear arches, aerial removed, rear wiper removed and side skirts fitted. With paint as well (obviously) it came to £500/£600 (can't remember exactly).

Thanks Sounds like you had a fair bit of work done. Im hoping they won't quote me too much.

thats a bloody cheap welding job mate, most place owuld be asking at least double for that amount of work

Most places were quoting me over double that, but luckily I managed to take advantage of a mate of a mate who was short on work and needed the cash.

The paint isn't perfect and the doors are rubbing the top of the skirts a little bit, but it will be going back next year for these to be sorted plus a little bit more welding under the rear bumper (which I found when under the car doing the hicas removal).

I know a guy in Gravesend who is very good at welding.

Think he only charges around £20-30 an hour for welding nowadays and he'll usually supply the metal too. Only catch is he only works Saturdays so often have to book him a couple of months in advance.

I've had many 200SX sills and wheel arches welded by him. Also custom engine/diff mounts etc.

Only problem is I can't PM him your number without paying to be a member here and I don't want to post his details in an open forum so if you want his details, let me know your email address and I'll send them over :)

EDIT:

I've now paid membership so that I can edit my posts and PM people, so feel free to drop me a PM if you want his details :)

I know he is fully booked until at least mid-February already though.
