Can anyone help please?

There's a strange noise which my car makes every now and then.

It seems to happen when driving not particularly fast. When the turbo gauge reaches about halfway and then goes back again the noise happens then.

I've been told it's most probably the turbo wastegate and is perfectly normal.

Does everyone else with a TT get this awful noise (hard to describe but sounds like a metalic squeak only a lot deeper!!)

This spoils an otherwise lovely engine/exhaust sound and I'm sick of saying to any new passengers, when they say "What was that noise?"

"Oh that,I'ts only the turbo wastegates,I'ts pefectly normal(I think?)"

Cheers,

F.T.

My standard boost recirculation wotnots used to make an annoying *farting* noice. Really quite embarassing. But I don't get it any more cos I've got a pair of Blitz dump valves :) I dunno if that's your problem, but it sounds like it.

Is this the dreaded "Goose Honk"?

That's the one. And probably why this is the only car forum that gets multiple hits when searching for goose !

Sounds very like the goose-honk noise..

I have it on mine - could always hear it, but it's a *lot* louder with Kris' stainless filter on.

The way I'd describe it, is like blowing across the top of a bottle, very loudly (quite a deep note, too).

It seems to happen as the boost guage crosses from +ve to -ve and swings past 0psi, so my theory is that it's the recircs opening just a touch, and literally blowing air across the top of the opening.

Anyway, it's normal, and the only fix is BOV's AFAIK.

Makes sense I s'pose. Not that many of my farts sound like goose-honks. Unless I've had sprouts.

I can vouch for that, it's more like a flock of starlings taking off:D

And believe me once its starts it only gets worse! Im afraid to go on boost unless is full throttle in case a flock of seagulls try to mate with the Zed!

Got BOV's waiting to go on!

I might be able to help you out there. I have sold parts in the past that solve that problem. If you give me a ring I'll give you the phone number of my 300ZX expert mechanic, who will explain what your problem is, then he'll tell you what part you need, which of course I'll have. I could even get him to do the repair for you.

Thanks

Andy (01634 221783 or 0776 176 3474)

from what i was told only bovs will get rid of de goosehonk, unless andy can enlighten me 2 on how 2 fix it?

to find out info on goosehonk just do a search in the aussi forums and ttnet, its a well documented problem over there but not so much here

Thanks everyone, yes the noise is definately a goose honk,I'll take you up on your advice and hopefully get it sorted.

Is it expensive? What with Christmas looming and all that.

Once again,thanks.
