Hi all,

im just wondering what you guys do with the side lights when using the Jdm indecators in the front bumper?

Has anyone modded them so the side light can be used in the blank?

Cheers Dan

Side light's what? lol ;)

I take it you're ditching the front fogs and relocating the side lights to the indicators? What indicators have you got? Version 1, 2 or 99? Can't remember what front end you have.

....they're easy enough to drill. I've converted a few sets for people in the US using UK blanks. They have DLRs in the indicators.

Yeah I converted my UK blanks to side lights, with orange bulbs just to piss people like Si off :)

with orange bulbs because I have no taste:)

Fixed! ;)

....to be fair, US cars have the same, but they have those indicators with the horrible orange sections. Clear (OEM) or UK indicators looks good.

I have the same front bumper as Baz has in the above pics!

I used to have the Ab-flug type 4 bumper fitted that came with it's own built in lenses. Now Im using the Scarab front end I bought what I believe to be jdm lights that are used in the pre 99 spec bumpers. All clear lense with an amber lense built within the unit.

The unit only has a bulb holder for the indecator bulb and not the side light. Im thinking of adding the side light in the clear blank unless anyone has a better idea.

These are by far and away the nicest for JDM vehicles.

Those would be perfect if they were tinted

Get UK blanks then.

Do the u.k spec have side light and indecator holders? Then I could change the lenses to tinted versions?

Lenses, I believe are both the same once separated, it's purely the backing that gives the appearance of them being tinted. But yes, there are points on which to add bulb holders. The moulding is the same, except there are just no holes, but the footprint is there. All you need to do is to measure and dremmel!

Where can you buy them from?

The clear ones you can buy from Zcentre. The smoked ones you can get from Z1, they actually drill them out and market them as Nismo indicators. But you can get a set of UK blanks from Jeff's I think. Not sure if he has any spare. I took my last set to the US back in June.

I can't remember, but I thought the UK tinted lenses were different from the ones I posted above (not ribbed?).

--edit-- just seen your post, they are.

You are correct. They are the same as the early versions. They still have a footprint on the base for adding a bulb holder. That part is smaller too than on early versions, only suitable for a sidelight bulb (501) rather than a 581 which is what you see in the later versions.

I believe the US cars (which use the same base as the early versions) have a 501 bulb as their DRL.

Ok thanks for the info guys.

Im going to try and mod the ones I have for now and test my dremel skills.

Ill let you know how I get on :)

Ok so I've been busy since deciding to have a go myself.

The way the standard indecator bulb sat on the fitting stopped me from fitting the light in the bumper as it hit my air filter after installing the z1 doolz kit. So ive relocated the hold to the other side. I will us l.e.d amber bulbs.

Ive also had a quick go at tinting the lense that turned out well with some film.

Results so far....

Nice work mate :thumbup1: I take it you've blanked off the old holes and sealed them up against moisture ingress?

Thanks bud. I will do once the no nails has dried. I will be fitting the side lights next

I did a similar thing with my UK spec. I didn't like the front sidelights being like tango'd foglights. So I dremelled the side light blanks and relocated the indicator part of the loom to them. I then replaced the UK front lights with JDM fogs and put a 6000K LED sidelight in them. Makes a huge difference.
