Its seems well known that the oil pressure unit / sender thingy on the 300zx is sheit, so what do people use instead, an aftermarket jobby or an inline gauge or poss booth?

I'm on my 3rd daily driver Zed since July 1999 and have had to replace 1 (one) oil pressure sender.

If it's working, leave it alone. If a test shows it's not showing correct pressure then either replace or replace / add after market as long as it's an after market you know shows correct pressure.

"Well known"? OK, many people believe many things but that's not the same as "knowing".

(now wait for my next post about my failed oil pressure sender :D )

Ditto.....

There is so much talk about Z32 gauges not being accurate (oil pressure, coolant temperature, turbo boost etc) but I don't believe that is so. It's just that aftermarket gauges are more precise in their readings (IE to the definite PSI, degree or part thereof), hence it gives people the comfort and impression of greater accuracy. However with the OEM gauges, as with any car, they simply indicate that things are running within the manufacturers' tolerances......

If you have modified your engine to produce big BHP (or you partake in regular track sessions), then I agree that the more precise information is vital; but for those running stock or slightly modified engines, why bother? There is no need; so just make sure that the sender units are in good working order and the gauge readings remain within the tolerances listed in your hand-book. Save your money and save yourself the panic of seeing the coolant temperature rise by 1 degree Celsius!!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Oh, and to answer your original question - I just bought a brand new OEM sender unit...

Luckily Yewcheck was doing a mass purchase from the USA so I managed to save about £25 on the cost (cheers Dave); and JeffTT fitted it for me the next time my car was at his place. And (in reference to my post above) the oil pressure gauge reads bang-on where it is supposed to be at all temperatures and RPM ranges...
