June 1, 200124 yr I have just had my car looked at by Darren and as I thought the prop and centre bearing are in a bad way. He mentioned that I could have a single prop and I believe that Steve has had this fitted.. Any advise.. Thanks
June 1, 200124 yr There is no need to use a single piece Prop unless your U joints are knackered in which case - that is all you can do ! If you CSB is shot (good chance) it can be simply changed - as can the tranny mount which shuold be done at the same time. If you have balance problems with the Prop itself on top of all the above then is the time to consider a one piece shaft. Not sure of any side effects from our lovely road or if SteveE has fitted his yet - i do believe a big factor in Steve decision was weight - the single DS is lighter which = more Rear Wheel hp. Im sure Steve will fill you in on the ins and outs next time he is on - i would wait till then till making a decision. Hope that helps Z ya Nico91TT
June 3, 200124 yr I had a prop vibration for the first 10 mins of warm up and it was because of worn U Joints. I had the choice of either having the stock prop overhauled by fitting new U joints or a single steel prop conversion. I chose the single prop as this is lighter than stock and gives a more direct power output to the wheels. It was around £375 + fitting and handling etc and this proved a cheaper option than a stock overhaul. There is only a very slight occasional noise from the diff as the power engages but you would only hear this with the windows open. The engagement itself is perfectly smooth and a great improvement on what I had before. If your prop is tired then I recommend this upgrade! Steve
