Im putting a double garage on the side of the house to put the Z in.

The internet is full of contradictory info on a size for a double garage and what a standard door size is?

Anybody have any measurement for a standard double garage and door sizes?

Also what sizes are recommended if you wanted to put two cars in and not dent one etc???

Anybody recently done this and have ideas of costs etc?

You can never have enough garage space so just go as big as possible and make your openings to fit a standard double door or have two single door openings

THIS!

The bigger the better! If I had my way and the inclination, my garage would be waayyyy bigger than my house!

Electric roller shutter doors are best, not particularly expensive and any size can be made or cut down. Go as big as your local council allows if you're not going for planning permission but there are rules which you'll find on your local website. If you are going for planning then it's a different story. The best advice I can give you is that if you're building a brick garage then fit the piers on the 'outside'. This gives you more room inside but also most councils measure the garage size based on the internal dimensions and that would be between the piers losing a fair bit of space. Look at the photo these pair of single garages I built last year as it was beneficial for me to have two single instead of one double. External piers and flat roof single ply membrane provides the biggest internal space. I can fit my trailer inside either of these and close the door :)

I was going to go for a double front as I find the singles a bit more limiting. great advice about the mountings on the front.

was definatley going roller. can you insulate these?

I can go 6m wide if I dont have a path down that side of the house or roughly 5 if I keep a path.

Ive just emailed the planning team as the website suggests if I go 6m * 5m i may be able to avoid planning regs, therefore Ive asked them for advice..

A double front is more limiting as two singles are future proofed against a change of use later. For example you might want a garage and a gym or workshop. Two single doors even if you don't split the garages entirely will give you loads of options at a later stage. Costs more money though :( Yes you can buy insulated roller doors. Here's a link to a very good supplier and cheap too and always keen to do a deal in my experience
