EGR....... Delete or replace?

Hiya folks, looking for some opinions from folks that have done the delete. Currently my EGR valve leaks over a bar so the boost is standard, pulling my plenum shortly and am going to either replace the valve and pipe work or delete it, so my question is..... Fuel consumption on long cruising journeys, much difference noticed in MPG from a functional valve to no valve?? Any other downside to the delete? , cheers.

Delete!-stopping nasty exhaust gasses going into the intake is only a good thing IMHO.

Get rid. Do you know for sure it even works? Bin in, do the water pipe bypass Aiv delete and prv delete while your at it. You will then have gained a perverse amount of free space for the sake of some silly tubes.

I plan on doing all the other deletes and no I don't know if it actually works (probs doesnt) but what I'm asking is what is the mpg benifit to having the EGR in place?

Currently my EGR valve leaks over a bar

I am intrigued to how you know/ tested for that? anyway the egr causes more issues than not given the age of them, disable or delete what ever you fancy.

I have a bung that goes in place of the maf jeff, it has a tyre valve on it so you can charge the system to check for leaks, anything over roughly a bar and air can be heard coming from where the EGR valve is bud, didnt spend too much time fannying about at the time but I guess the diaphragm is goosed, reason for checking was boost was becoming a bit unstable when raised.

The diaphragm should just lift the valve off its seat, as the valve is closed then just remove the vacuum feed to the diaphragm see if it still leaks, you might be lucky its just on the vac side!!

Cheers for the advice jeff, I'm pulling the plenum over the winter for a load if deletes anyway, the purpose of the thread was to see if anyone with a working EGR had noticed much difference in MPG after the delete, il just do away with it anyway :)

You shouldn't be pressure testing to 1bar regardless. Your pressurising the pre turbo pipework this way, which in turn means your applying pressure to the rock covers etc, it's a good way to pop your cam seals out mate.

Fairly sure your egr is only functional at tick over so is immaterial to mpg, also with a 3 litre bi turbo fuel economy is out the window regardless.

Firstly cheers for the reply :) EGR is active on all "off load conditions" (tick over and motorway cruises),besides lowering combustion temps to reduce NOx, EGR when open lowers engine displacement, if your on cruising and the valve is open and for "talking sake" the car is running 10% EGR Of spent gasses then the airflow meter is seeing less air enter the engine and the ecu fueling for the metered air. See what I'm getting at? , The higher the EGR the higher the mpg,Prius for instance can run 30% EGR, if blanked off a car like that would see a big difference in mpg. Don't get me wrong i don't nessesarily want it there just wondered if anybody had accurate mpg advantage figures.

To be honesty mate as I said to jeff it was just a quick check, I didn't go daft pumping loads of pressure into the system, I more or less just wanted to rule out anything easily fixable on my lunch break at work while I had the use of the ramps ect but yea if I was then blocking relevant breathers would be a good idea :) and the PCV's should stop me filling the crankcase :)
