On a pleasant Sunday afternoon while with my wife waiting to pick up my brother law from his work. My wife gets a phone call from her dad shouting to her, that a major car accident has just happened right out the front of his house and right were my beautiful Z was parked.

So we rushed home to see what had happened, and when we got there it was a chaotic scene with a ford sedan laying on its side right next to my Z. The car had ran over a series of traffic signs and a small round about prior to crossing the wrong side of the road and losing control eventually hitting 2 brick fences and landing on its side.

By the time we arrived there were already a couple of police, paramedics and firefighters already attending to the driver of the vehicle still trapped inside his car. My mother in-law took this photo before I had a chance to move it.

I quickly parked my wife's car and rushed over to my Z and moved it out of the emergency services way. Unfortunately as lucky as my Z was to not get hit directly by the sedan. My wife noticed some minor damaged to my lower LH side door.

Here is what the scene looked like after woulds.

And here is the damaged most likely caused by a small piece of brick hitting my door during the impact of the sedan and the 2 brick fence's. I know its only a minor dent and its nothing I can't live with. But this was not my fault and I was being told by family member's that I should make a report with the police and hopefully the police report will allow the insurance company to be able to have the area repair without me needing to pay my excess.

After the yellow sedan was finally removed from the scene, I made a report with the police about the damage my Z had suffered from the accident and from what the officer told me, I should be able to claim this incident with the insurance without having to pay any excess. I have contacted my insurance company and I have given them everything I received from the police officer's and I will need to wait for the insurance company to call me back in the next few days and go from there.

I parked my Z back into the same spot it was when the accident occurred and I still can't believe how close my Z came to disaster.

Thank you Z gods for protecting my Z.

Good news on getting the 300 back Adam but I would of wanted the new paint to blend in more with the original paint. Would a good polish blend it in more?

I dont know but the guys on the aus300zx have pointed out my lower door hinge is slightly out of alignment and I am planning to complain about the none blending of the paint with the body. The work has a lifetime garantuee so I should be able to have them redo the job at no cost to me. Ill keep you guys posted on any updates.

Oh dear, that is one nice zed and in my view the body shop / insurance co. have sold you short there, silver is royal pain to match and edge to edge repair will never look right.

Blending would have made the job so much better, I know insurance companies world wide will try and pinch were they can but to not blend a silver/mettalic repair to me is a lesser than satisfactory job.

Its your zed and it was perfect before, its not like you were looking for betterment, tell the insurance company about your concerns and although the customer service was excellent the body shop need to do blend the door into the front wing and rear quarter and paint the door handle at the same time!

We have all seen cars like this and when I do I wonder why the owner has accepted the repair as ok, trust me, as time goes on this will bug you every time you walk up to the car, and even worse when someone points it out, the paint will not look better as it ages either that`s a body shop cop out, feel for you matey, I had a full repaint on my zed years ago and the drivers door had a shadow in it, when I pointed it out they repainted it and when I went to collect they had edge painted it and it was like black and white, I refused the car until I got what I was paying for a repainted car all the same shade, they did it again ( this time blending and magically it was all ok.

Good luck and stay firm you want it right.

Hi Adam, I've had a few dings and bigger respray jobs on both silver (not current one touch wood) and blue Zeds and all of the body shops used have been able to match 15 year old paint let alone 12 months. In fact, on the blue one, they even asked did I want it official Nissan paint code colour or match the actual colour. I don't know what the rules are in Oz but I would be very disapppointed in colour matched that badlly and, if they are a professional repair shop, they should know that "we did it to the paint code and not the actual colour" is, as we say over here, a load of dingo's kidneys.

Good luck.

Glad you got your car fixed but not so glad about the end result. the bodyshop needs to do a proper job. they know that was never going to match but oviously dont care. the bodyshop gets paid to paint the damaged panel thats had the damage and put it right. you could argue that it is not right. first of, it doesnt matter if they have the correct paint code. the fact that the door has been painted of the car it will never match. the reason for this is metalic paint, in this case, base and clear. the base being the colour ie silver needs to be painted on the car with the door on the car. let me explain, metalic paint is diamond shaped and as it is sprayed it lays at different angles. its these angles as the paint lays down on the surface and the light hit it, that determines the colour and shade.like a prism.if you paint panel to panle it will never match. they need to flick the basecoat into the other panels whem painting a panel never edge to edge then place you clear coat your laqure over the whole area in this cas the side of your car. as like also you cannot paint a bonnet on its owns without flicking the colour over the wings. i hope that makes sence. i told my bloke that painted my car not to paint the doors off the car when he painted my car, but unfortuneately for him he did and now has to paint the whole car again. he remember the conversation that i said espeally with a three stage pearl colour it would never match. my cars going to be stripped down again when it comes back from having the rear end conversion done, at cost to him, he was warned. hope you get it sorted. if it was a astin martin it would never have been left like that so why is it ok to leve yours like that.

Thanks for all tue advice guys. I will be calling the repair shop and im going to try and get this all sorta. I just dont trust these panel shops with my z. But you are all right why should i accept this i should get what i want.

Thanks again guys.

Very true, good luck and stand your ground. Ridiculous situation to be in and how bad are the insurance company not funding the blending process! Very poor
