Took the old impul one off to fit a z1 provided oem style jobber.

The short shifter came with it so I took the centre console up and dismantled it all.

After putting it all back together it only goes into first and not all the way.

Item one

Item two

Item three

So what have I done. Should the ball socket thing be greased in item one.

Item one also was pulled up into the socket by item two and seemed to seat itself correctly. I think this is where the problem lies.

Item three just the short shifter right?

Everything was done up "pretty bloody tight" rather than "red in the face tight" as they were when I took it to bits.

Thanks guys.

u need to pull the bottom half of the short shiftier up thou the bearing .. then fit the first collar and screw on the end part of the leaver

and yeah the bearing needs grease on it

I did that with mine Tom, catches on the bolts so could hit first or fifth.. lol..

I turned this into a hard job as well..

Thanks Kev, kind of fixed it. It was a question of leverage with the new shorter knob.

Can someone sell me a non short shifter kit please as it is rubbish!

Yeah thanks Mark, I'll have a go tomorrow and report back. Just to help people in the future ill add a bit more information...

New knob

The chewed up old one sat a good inch taller once on. This means that the leather knob has less leverage and the shift feels short and heavy. Also 5th and reverse don't really go in anymore. This must have always been a problem but the extra leverage masked it. Kev helped here by advising I try the old knob with it all exposed and the old successful shifting returned.

Mark and I discussed this and he explained that the problem probably does not exist inside the short shifter unit itself as I thought. But rather is a clearance issue at the other end of those red circled bolts. On one side the 5th reverse side.

I will remove the olive plate (blue circles) and have a look and an adjust tomorrow.

Hi Mate, these are the ones I mentioned I had to grind down slightly as they were catching.. problem sorted and I have that knob as well.. :-)

Was chasing my tail and going nuts trying to work it out. No obvious fowling beneath. So took it all to bits, copper greased everything smoothed all the linkage movements a lot. Found the black ring that holds the ball bearing race and pivot down to be warped. A bit of slack freed up the shift as did a bit of slack on the shaft. But tighten both and 5th was a no go. I then saw ITEM TWO WAS UPSIDE DOWN. :headvswall:

Inverting this with everything tight and newly greased and it's better than it ever was.

Are you selling the old Impul Knob

I was thinking the same thing purely for the badge, but I had a steel momo one on when I got mine (still got it somewhere) although it was nice enough, in the winter it was horrid, I was having to pull my sleeve over my hand just to touch it. soon warmed up though mind.

I have Impul front and rear bumpers, and side skirts, thought this would make a nice addition to the collection.

Yeah my thoughts for my rear and skirts, however a mondo retrim oem is my favourite for the minute.
