US exhaust comparison

This is probably one for Funkysi or anyone else who regularly goes to the US.

Having a SWB means exhausts are bloody hard to come by. I could go get a custom job, but it's always a risk as to what kind of sound you end up with.

YouTube vids don't really offer much help as the cameras used are crap and the folks using them don't have a clue.

So, for those that have heard SWB na's with aftermarket exhausts (Labree/ AMS/Borla etc) which one sounded best in your opinion ?

I can't afford a B&B exhaust so don't recommend them! lol. and I prefer the double twins look.

Would it not be an idea to get a known LWB version and get a exhaust fabricator to use that as a base to modify to a SWB version or is the difference too large? Never really looked lol!

Just a thought

Cost wise, it just wouldn't be worth it.

Also, new LWB exhausts are still just as limited in the UK. Especially in a double twins set up.

Lol

Strangely enough I emailed him yesterday about it (before I realised it was a LWB).

He just offered me the whole system for £200.

Not sure what Marty had on his but it sounded awesome. Maybe search his old threads or ask Janus as she owned it previously. Alternatively contact Sasha, he had one fabricated for his, it's currently For Sale on here. His username is MCMMMMXXX or similar lol.

Many NAs I've heard with aftermarket exhaust systems sound raspy. I personally would look at just getting a custom one made and have it made as quiet as possible to eliminate the possibility of droan and/or rasp.....just don't go to one of those crappy franchise Powerflow type places, or even Powerflow themselves. hit/miss quality and poor materials.

Avoid the AMS systems at ALL costs. Fitment is extremely sketchy at best. The Z32 NA that I drive in the US has a Labree system, which IMO, is one of the nicest sounding (externally) on an NA and you don't get the rasp that you get from the HKS systems. The labree system does droan a little bit at about 2,000 rpm, but the car is running without resonators. Make sure you have resonators otherwise you'll be hating on your car.

I like the sound of your exhaust Lexx, it has a beautiful rasp. is it really beyond repair? when I was looking at exhausts I found that conceptz were the cheapest and I was going for a Labree with aluminium pipes. Then I read they can't offer a life time warranty on the aluminium anymore, but still I figured it's got to last longer than what the car will.

I can't remember what you said was wrong with it now, but if it's the back boxes how about getting a mongoose one, and just get the back boxes chopped and welded to your existing centre section?

beautiful rasp.

These two words are incompatible in the same sentence. ;)

Borla systems are pretty noisey too from those that I've heard. With regards to where to purchase, just check shipping costs with both. Z1 I think have better shipping rates, despite the product costing a little more.

Resonator = centre boxes. You can actually buy them as a component. But you can also order the labree systems without resonators (centre boxes). Just too darn loud and droany!

Ar right thought it might of been something fancy lol. My bm exhaust has got rubber blocks all over it for vibration

Cheers for that. Much appreciated.

The system I have on at the moment is a custom system (about 3rd hand I think).

The centre section already has resonators in, so there is no rasp (I think Stevie may be unsure on what rasp is! lol).

Yeah Stevie, it's beyond repair. One of the boxes is corroded through underneath, and both weld are shot through on both sides where they meet the boxes. A previous owner has covered this up by using the box from a case of budweiser and some hear wrap tape. *******.

I'll toss it up between getting a Labree, or getting a custom made job at AAS in Newcastle. Will just have to compare the prices. I know AAS quality is second to none in the UK, unfortunately you pay for the quality.

Haha, yeah sorry I meant burble, not rasp...

So if it is just the boxes then just replace them...

lol

That's what I'm discussing Stevie - which boxes to go for. You can buy Labree boxes on their own ;)

not to sure if this helps but my personal fav is the Xforce varex from Australia, they are expensive and hard to get but i just dont think they can be beat when it comes to sound.
