Ok so ever since I passed my test I've always wanted to do a trip to the ring, but something's always come up so haven't been able to go, a few months ago the GTIR owners club did a trip to it but with a baby on the way again I couldn't go, the pics and vids ect looked great fun

So I thought next year this is defiantly something I want to do, now I don't think this club does enough big meets or events so I was thinking maybe we could sort out a road trip to the ring, we could do it for example May or June next year this gives anyone interested plenty of time to save/get there cars ready and to sort it with work ect.

It would be a long weekend thing so something like starting on either a Thursday or Friday and returning on the Sunday,

Now surely we must be able to get at least 10 people wanting to to go, it would be great to see a convoy of zeds going it would be great fun driving there, even if you don't wanna drive round the ring you might just wanna come for the road trip

Let me know what you guys think, if we can get enough interest then I can look further in to it

Count me in provisionally!!

I've done over 100 laps of the Nordschleife (but not in the Z yet) and about 10 of the GP circuit - a lap of the 'Ring is one of the greatest treats you can have behind the wheel. To anyone who's thinking of it the advice must be DO IT!! You won't regret it.

Just come back from a Spa trackday (I'll be doing a separate post on that) and am now very up for the 'Ring - but not this year now. Can't think of anything more enjoyable (with my clothes on) then going with some other Zs.

Probably the shape of the weekend will depend on the opening times - it may be that, say, a Friday departure coming back on Monday may give more track time. It's dreadful having to leave a fully-open 'Ring early to get a ferry. On the other hand it can get very busy on a Sunday. Quite often I didn't have Sunday breakfast so I could be first out on track when it opened at 8 am - just had the track to myself. Brilliant! A few times a mate and I got a Saturday morning ferry; got to the Ring in time to see out the end of the Saturday session; did Sunday morning at the Ring and then caught a 6pm ferry home on Sunday. Absolutely knackering and not recommended...

Let's keep our fingers crossed that a few people decide to have a go in 2014. Could be a gas!

I want to go deffo but unsure as to wether it will be feasible going in the zed, I think me and my buddy's were going to see the Le Mans 24 race there.

But will be watching this space. ;)

I would love to, however If I'm honest with myself it's going to be longer than that before the car is ready, so many things to pay out for and do over the next year. :(

I've considered it as a stop-off point on my way to visit my sister in Munich, but have never had the time and always flown. Might consider this for next year as I loved my southern France road trip in the Z and wouldn't mind testing my car's top speed on the autobahn.

I have visited the last two years and its a wonderful place if you are a petrol head. If you get this of the ground no trip is complete without a visit to the pistonklause for a steak on a stone. We actually stayed there this year.

I would recommend anyone who goes to the ring with the intention of driving it manages to get them selves booked onto a UK track day first assuming they have had no track experience (experience days don't count you need a track day in your own car to learn it). Its a terrifying place with endless corners and its far far narrower than it first looks.

That aside the scenery around the track and the viewing points are just fantastic and worth finding. I would try and avoid the German bank holidays if you can as its absolute bedlam and trying to get on the track during those busy days is hard work. Most week nights the ring is open but during the day you will find that there are private track days/testing/practice events which can be brilliant to watch. The alternative is to actually book a track day, some of them are over two days and although sound expensive at first can be quite good value especially when a single lap of the ring is now 27 euros I think.

This is starting to look a little better, if anyone has any preference to time of year ect post it up,

Then we can do it in either a few ways, we could travel down to Dover then either get ferry or the tunnel across and then carry on straight through to the nurburgring

Or we could stop off in some where like Brussels for the night have a few drinkies then next morning carry on to the ring

What do you lot think?

Im not fussy. But a night in Brussels sounds like fun... but my wide body tt manual will be ready in march... all made in metal,, :) a one-off baby .. then lump and underneath to do.
