courtesy/hire cars?

My car's finally gonna go into the bodyshop (again) and I need to get a hire car. The 3rd party insurance have agreed to pick up the cost, but I want to know what the standard practise of choosing a car. My mate said that I am allowed to hire a car in the same sort of range? I don't want to end up with a Micra as I've got a bit of motorway journey to do.............any ideas????
