The registration mark of the vehicle must be fixed and displayed on both the front and the back of the vehicle, so that in normal daylight the letters and figures are easily legible from every part of the 'relevant area', 'relevant area' being 75 feet I think and theres a fix penalty, if not also if you had a accident the no plate wood fly in the car and cause an injury .

I will fitting a 99 spec bumper soon for more air flow to the rad the reg plate blocks the opening loads. at the mo the bumper is stock I have the reg plate as a sticker on top of the bumper

No, i got stopped twice for having the number plate in the window, didnt get a fine but would have if i had played Jack the lad to the coppers. I too have a 99 spec, but i shaved the plate holder for the smoother look, but had to stick it back on in the same place for now to avoid unwanted attention.

One of the reasons the copper gave, was ANPR camera cannot pick it up at that height.

The plate if UK spec will not hinder the airflow on a 99 spec, Jap plate probably would.

Looks so much better without a front plate, such a shame its law in this country

"But officer, it just fell off the front bumper so I stuck it in the window till i get could get to the next garage/home to stick it back on"

Or is it missing? Is was there when I left? :s pretty sure failure to display/missing holds a lesser penalty than incorrectly displayed or eliagable plates. After all if it's genuinely fallen off in your travels, well it's genuinely fallen off.

I would have used that excuse lol, but the second time i was stopped was by a copper, i know has seen me driving around for months with it in the window, he said get it put back as im on a list to be stopped :whistling:, so i did :thumbup1: put it back that is

looks so nice with out the plate

Had an issue with Petrol Stations in the past. They refused to activate the pump as no Plate was displayed (even though it was in window), had to get it out and hold it out for them too see before they would turn pump on.

Interesting discussion on same issue on Petrolheads http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=10&t=716215&mid=0&i=100&nmt=Can+you+display+your+front+numberplate+in+your+windscreen%3F&mid=0

Sticker plates grey area because of the vertical requirement and in windscreen even more so. All I know is that a gent with a blue pointy hat took issue to the sticker plates I had on the front of my old beetle. If the car has/had a "proper" place to put the plate and you choose not to use it, you're less safe.

Airflow is a another interesting point. The correct UK Nissan place for the front plate on normal bumper would seem to be fine (otherwise they wouldn't have put it there and also Japanese plate on a 99spec ditto).

LH is proper UK spec place and size. RH is just bolted on but is also UK size.

vs front plate.jpg

I'm lucky in that my private plate G10 TLA (it's not TLA but you know what I mean) in the correct allowable import size if you can't "accommodate" the proper size (see pdf) just fits exactly the width of the plate area on the 99 bumper. But even so, a proper UK size plate there wouldn't obstruct the airflow meaningfully (and compare that to the UK plate fitment.)

The reason i asked is because this is what im having issues with. im thinking of mounting the rear plate as per normal and i have orderd from show plates two front plates one 12 by 3 inch and one 9 by 7 inch to see whitch on i like better or i have the other option of carrying the correct plate in the boot and say it fell of sometime and pay the 30 pound penalty and i know they cant indorse your licence with points.

The sticker plates look absolutely horrific on any car...I have gotten away with a 3/4 size plate for years on two 300zx cars and an MR2 turbo with no problems from the fuzzy muff

I have a sticker plate I think it look better my self

I got a producer and defect for having a sticker number plate at Santa pod last Sunday, the number plate must be toward facing and readable for the anpr cameras. I've got a veilside front so even square plates are awkward and look crap but it's better than the attention from the mobile cash generators !

You don't need that much airflow for the rad to work as it should if your having over heating problems then the issue will lye in the cleanliness of your cooling system not the aperture of the bumper

car is fine just want as much cold air as poss really can only be a good thing

A producer is a document the police give you that states you must have the fault rectified and inspected by an Mot tester within 7 days. The Mot tester then stamps and signs the producer document to say its been sorted and you must hand it in at a police station.
