Ok, so was excited that I finally bolted my engine into the new shell today and started reconnecting everything.

I got to the compressor connections and the damn things are different!

It's a TT shell and an NA engine. Do TT's use a different compressor, or is this some kind of auto transmission thing (cant think why)?

Neither connections fit, though one is a new pipe I got from ebay a while back, as I stripped the threads removing it from the NA shell, I think it's a TT pipe, but when I bought it I didn't know they were different.

I'm guessing TT's have different compressor, but why?!

The difference is between early and late style ac systems and compressor.

Oh, that sounds like it complicates things.

Do you know when it changed. The TT shell is 1990, whilst my NA was 92. I'm guessing my NA has the newer system...

Cheers!

The easiest thing is to change the compressor for the later type as changing the pipework is a nightmare as even the threads are not inter-changable.

Thanks, before I do this I'll check the pipes, as I may be able to re-thread the damaged pipe and use plenty of thread sealant.

Oh, and when I was talking about the 'Condenser', I actually meant the compressor. So really the thread should be called 'Compressor confusion'... oops.

Don`t worry about R12 not been available you can use drop in gas, all you need to do its get a couple of adapter connectors for the high and low pressure ports, they are available on ebay.

Thanks, I've changed 'condenser' in my initial post to 'compressor', so now everything makes sense! :D
