Hi, I have just fitted the new oil cooler and lines and before I get finished putting radiator in and cranking over the engine............ I have a few questions.....

1) I can't find the restrictor in the old oil lines as I only had the ones from the block to the metal hard pipes.... no restrictor seems to be in them..... do I need to get one and fit it to the new braided lines? Made restrictor myself

2) How do I prime the new oil cooler and oil lines before firing the engine for the first time? I know about cranking the engine without ignition to prime the turbo's..... Do I fill the oil cooler manually? Going To fill oil cooler before I fill engine to make sure there is oil in the system before cranking!

3) Also fitted Transmission oil cooler.... used a std TT oil cooler for transmission as I am fitting an alloy rad without oil cooler for the transmission..... Do I fill this with auto transmission fluid as I lost loads when I pulled the engine a few years ago? Going to fill with fluid and check transmission fluid level when running

4) Is it okay to clean up brake discs that are rusted..... cars been sitting outside for 6 years without use......? Going to remove and clean off the rust and see if they are pitted!

5) Does the old fuel need emptying before I fire up the engine as it is 6 years old, about 1/2 a tank full? Emptying tomorrow after advice!!

6) Will the warlbro 255 pump I fitted be okay for a TT or should I have gone with a 2nd hand TT pump?

Still need advice on number 6 .......please....

Can't answer them all but;

2. Take out the fuel pump fuse from the small fuse holder in the bay (drivers side near back). Then crank the engine a few times, this will chuck the oil about but won't start the engine. Will also put oil through the tubs. Just put the fuse back in when your done.

3. Use transmission cooler as it is the transmission your cooling, regardless of the type of cooler.

4. As long as they aren't pitted then yes will be fine, driving it will also remove mild surface rust.

5. I'd ditch the fuel as the octane will have gone by now and it's not worth trying with it tbh.

HTH

Ps. I'll shift this into Help & advice for you mate :)

I thought the oil cooler didn't fill till oil was up to running temperature?.... I was worried that it would suddenly fill and take oil away from the engine.....

hmm, couldn't say for sure on that. I was under the impression that the cooler was just part of the the oil system, but unlike the rad, the oil went through it anyway. You could always check the level again and top up as required before putting the fuse back in. You'll need to do the procedure anyway as the turbos will have more than likely drained of oil if the engine hasn't been run for a while. A dry turbo seal will be knackered very quickly if you don't.

I'm sure one of our experts will be able to say if this will fill the cooler or not as well.

With regard to number 5, I couldn't get a disc cutter started earlier in the year that had petrol in that was a year old. Completely inert, poured some out, put a match to it and it barely burnt.

Normally the quickest way to empty the tank would be to drive a few miles..

Since you can't yet then I'd remove the pump and use a suction pump to get rid. Pretty sure the filler neck has an anti-syphon valve to stop fuel theft.

I have a shorty so not sure if it's the same but im sure there are a couple of drain plugs on mine at the bottom of the tank, one each side

Well couldn't get a restrictor, so I made one from some brass rod.....IMG_3918.JPG

Cut a 3mm hole through it..... apparently this is the size if the oem one in the std hose......

Just need to fit to the new hose now....

So Question 1 is now done......

Anyone know about fuel pumps.... Question 6......????
