Its no coincidence that the vast majority of 300ZX owners in motorsport start with a slicktop.

Its the lightest model in the range.

Way back in 2005 I weighed a standard NA Manual Slicktop.

It weighed 1420kg as driven on to a weighbridge. Fuel around 1/3 tank.

This was pretty much what Brian Long listed in his book.

After a fair amount of stripping which was partially documented in a thread at the time I got the weight down

to 1320kg. This was with my original red slicktop.

When I built the current orange and black car I did some more weight loss but never went back to get it weighed

So in its present spec I weighed it today.

It weighed 1270KG. There was over half a tank of fuel so Im sure I could get that down to nearer 1250.

There is a little more to be saved by stripping out the doors and using Polycarb windows but that final reduction is a bridge too far for me and quite expensive.

So......1260KG say witth 1/3 tank fuel.

It will be interesting to see how that compares with Bob and James's cars.

What have you done to drop the weight that much Pete? Has Bob or James ever considered a carbon boot lid, they're supposed to save a fair few kilos although pretty expensive?

James has one fitted.... as I do.

Bob has a stripped/cut out steel one.

We all run polycarb windows in them. All of them liftable with one hand.

Most of my weight loss is documented in previous threads... somewhere on the forum.

Thats pretty damn light! id like to see how much more a SWB targa actually is compared to the slickie. need to find these threads.

And you've still got a lower power to weight than a Lwb auto tt :p just jesting with you Pete.

Very Impressive Pete.

30kg like for like. Might not sound that much, but its a weight loss at the highest point of the car, plus the Slicktop shell has better torsional rigidity.

A Base model slicktop is around 50kg lighter than a Regular SWB as items like Electric seat and ABS were options rather than standard fit.

I'd be interested to have mine on a weigh bridge she's lost a few lbs with the air con all completlt stripped and the usual deletes and not gained any from Chav tastic steros. Wheels are the low point for me as they are cheap and heavy. I'm not prepared to loose te interior though.

I've yet to get mine on the scales, however I did document every item removed/replaced during my build, and I should be looking at around 1350kg for my TT Slicktop Manual with Full glass and interior (except bucket seats).

Thats approx 250kg lighter than your typical Z (LWB TT)

im also stripping my swb targa to what i 'need' plus it was originally N/a so no abs for me. would love to know what bob and james' cars weigh.

Mine was 1370kg last time I weighed it, not much changed from then, I have another 20 kg ish ready to come out when I have time to fit some new parts.

That was with all fluids and a full tank of fuel

Actually, my new battery only weighs .5kg, so that saves another 4kg from my redtop one

Your cage must have added good 35kg-40kg ?

.5kg Battery !? Do tell ?

I was pleased with my 6kg drycell

Lithium based, it's ridiculously small, and much more powerful than the redtop 20 I had before

Do you have a link, or know which Brand and model you are using ?

You got round to it then, that's a good weight lets see if I can get mine somewhere near the same with the plans I have

Vectra in for sevice and MOT so I had the slicktop out n about.

Weighbridge is opposite Ilkeston Town Football ground. CPL distribution(coal etc)

At £8 it wasnt cheap but it puts my mind at rest .

And it does set a target for anyone else to aim for.

Do you get any extra noise with the carbon boot lid? Presumably having polycarb windows eliminates the heated rear screen but do you even need it with polycarb?

noise - can't tell, there's no interior anyway so it's noisy :)

no heated screen, but you shouldn't do this if you care about that. Never had problems with mine though saying that

LOL!!!

Nobody should do any of the work James,Bob and me have done to our cars.

They are all ear drum painful to drive :scared:

Unless you want to turn the car in to one like ours of course.:thumbup1:

They are all ruined as far as having a nice road car is concerned

Neither car is running hicas is it? Just wondering how much gain is had from it being fully deleted.

I actually prefer my Zed now it's fairly stripped out (no rear seats, door cards, trim & a CF bucket seat). First car I don't want to put the interior back into after removing it.

They handle properly. There is no place in a motorsport orientated car for it.

IMO of course.

Removal saves weight too.

Yeah this is what I mean, hicas doesn't extend any confidence. I've got used to it but it can make the car easily unpredictable, causing over correction. Do we know what the weight loss is?

Nope Im sure someone somewhere does.

however all these individual weights of stuff, while of passing interest are not really much use.

there is only one weight of any real interest... the bit thats left.:thumbup1:

Ive got a carbon boot but kept the glass screen and heated function. Just shows you how much can be lost. :)
