I'm considering having a Toad alarm system fitted in my Zed. Does anyone know of any issues with it working alongside their turbo timer?

Damn! what work around do you guys use? or do you just sit in the car on idle, like i'm doing at present (no timer fitted yet)?

Would be nice to stop/exit/set/forget.

not being funny mate, but ditch the turbo timer and just ease off the loud pedal for the last few miles home. That's what I would do.

as above and its much better than sitting on idle and letting all the heat sink in

Fit a clifford and program it too work as a turbo timer so car is locked and armed while running then shuts down after the pre programmed time

Cheers guys,

I try to avoid the loud pedal in my locality anyway, so suppose i'll just continue doing that then. Various threads seem to suggest Cliffords can be bit moody at times, so Toad it is then I thimk

I used to fit cliffords years ago..... well about 13 years ago..... and they were a bit..... well..... temperamental..... sometimes.....lol

No idea what newer ones are like...... Best to ask on a car audio / security forum and see what people recommend..... fitters that deal with various brands are usually the best resource as they see the failings of all makes and can give you the pro's and con's of all manufacturers....

I have had toad, clifford, waso, serpistar, GT and a few other makes...... toad were probably the most reliable one that I had......

Clifford has the gadgets......

Also talk to other Z owners and see what they have and any issues they have come up with.....

I will speak to a couple of fitters I still see and find out what they recommend on todays market....

A quick look at reviews and it looks like Viper are a make with good reliability and functions???

I will speak to fitters later today.....

Toads won't work with turbo timer as far as I'm aware mate

I had a toad ai606 and an hks turbo timer and they worked fine together

Thats what I was considering...now I'm really confused. How do the two work together?

I know with my set up (autowatch alarm with GReddy FATT) it wouldn't allow me to zap and lock the doors/alarm the car whilst the timer was counting down but with some jiggery pokery with the ignition wires and some big juicy diodes in line, I now can just walk away and leave it counting down knowing that when it's finished it's alarm/locked and I'm already in the house making a cuppa :cool3:.

The toad alarm has 2 immobiliser cuts and as a rule this would be starter and fuel pump. This would stop the turbo timer working as car won't get fuel. A clifford alarm is always starter and ignition circuit as this is how there designed.

Using a relay for the extra current load through the ignition a toad can be installed in the same way so the turbo timer would work still and the alarm would be active. You could even take off the turbo timer and have a built in timer off the toads remote ie

Before you switch off ign and get out of the car you could press the 2 bottom remote buttons together which then activates the pre set timer in the alarm which means when you take the key out the ignition the car is still running. You then get out shut the door and lock as usual and walk away knowing the cars locked and armed. After the pre set time elapses the car will shut down still locked and armed

Viola!

I would still opt for the clifford tho because of the proximity sensor so you can have armed with the roof off. I can supply and fit the toad or the clifford with the turbo timer bit working from £260 to £290 aswell:innocent:

I told you it is best to get advice from the peeps on the forum.....lol

I had a chat with a fitter mate of mine who just said he recommends what the shop sells..... clifford and toad......lol

But as he said the alarm is only as good as the person who fits it...... which I completely agree with....

You can even add a microwave sensor (covers convertibles with roof down) as Securicar said to both clifford and Toad..... you can also add tracking units, window lift modules, remote starting, pagers, etc....

Just make sure when you do get it fitted that you get a fitting certificate for your insurance, signed and stamped by fitting company......

I personally wouldn't go turbo timer route.... I Read that it is better to let the engine cool down driving last few miles home with less accelerator as idling can make engine hotter as there is no air flow cooling the radiator, oil cooler or intercoolers.....

Only my opinion, but hope it helps....

Can't I just have the Toad with the roof down protection and built in timer? :helpsmilie:

Clifford's just scare me, review wise...

If it's a Yes, and it's only as good as the fitter.......

You can have the toad with the roof down protection and timer but you don't get the ability to adjust yourself from the remote. I have been fitting clifford toad and sigma since 1997 and very rarely have had problems with any of them. Clifford are actually very reliable now as there just clifford in name. They are now actually directed electronics stuff and I am a very good engineer. You get a lifetime parts warranty but I give a lifetime installation warranty for as long as you own the vehicle. For outright fit and forget security with no fancy extras I would go for SIGMA S30. For features and future expandability with good security I would go for the CLIFFORD CONCEPT 650P MK11.

Sigma are the pro fit only side of toad

Maybe you could help me out with my toad? I`m over in chelmsford had the car off for some welding, came back with no remote central locking. So i`ve disconnected the alarms door actuator to remove unnecessary load on the barrel but i would like the function back. How the hell it happened i`v`e no idea was fine before it went. It the a606i
