ok i have put a few threads up about car drifting to the left been aligned its all stop on but still goes to the left all the bushings look fine there is no clunks the calipers and not rubbing wheels spin free then jacked up the guy at the garage i use say it could be a rack issue and are going to disconnet the power steering pump belt so there is no power steering and drive it and see if it still pulls. if this dont work what else is there to change

i dont understand. who isnt interested? you or the garage?

the garage i have been going there for a long time but thay dont seen intrested atall now said he would have a look so when i get it back i will unplug the hicas solnoid to start with and try that just to recap for anyone reading thread car is pulling to the left i have done so far the aligment and it all spot on the brakes are not binding when i jack the car up the wheels spin free the tyre pressures are correct the tyres are the rite size thay match each side so not odd on each corner

i dont understand. who isnt interested? you or the garage?

I assume he means the garage

yes i did you will have to forgive my spelling as i didnt go to school

Have you tried getting a pry bar and seeing if there is any side to side play on that wheel? It might be something like a worn bush or balljoint causing your problem.

May be a bit off target here, but I seem to remember a similar situation a while back.

Turned out to be the steering rack moving, something to do with worn clamp bushes.

I think the tell-tail signs were a polished - shiny area either side of the bushes where the rack had been moving.

Easy to check I think with the car up in the air.

will look at that when i get the car back

Hello, be interesting to see if you find the cause!.... Mine does this too. I replaced worn tie rod end bushings this week, wen tto an "alignment" and it is still terrible!... have to hold wheel at 2 o'clock position to go straight. The wheel place just used lasers and changed the front wheels angle to line everything up to 5mm as apparently that means it is straight, but I am concerned that they didn't do anything to the rear wheels?...

Isn't there something about the radiator support bracket?. Rusts cracks then allows the tension rod to move ?

I would have also suggested the obvious things like tyre pressures (IE they are the same on each side of the car); tyre sizes, tread patterns and make on opposing axles - IE thet thay are also the same.

Also when performing a wheel allignment on a 300zx with HICAS, it is VITAL that the steering wheel is dead central when the front wheels point straight ahead. There are sensors in the steering wheel to activate the HICAS; so whilst an "ordinary" car might get away with the steering wheel being slightly off-centre, on a ZX it causes issues!

And what about road camber? Have you tried driving on a flat surface like a motorway; as opposed to normal roads around town? All cars will naturally pull to the left on local roads owing to the road surface camber - unless you decide to drive on the right hand side, in which case it will pull to the right:wink:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Would also go a bit further, and make sure the tyres are fitted correctly ie are they directional. You could try swapping the wheels around to discount a tyre issue.

i can just got consult will this show me if the sensor and steering wheel are in the rite place thay well mite be out of line so maybe the hicas it geting the wrong readings and the rear wheels are turning all the time when am trying to drive straight

that intresting idea i now have ajustable tention rods but before i fitted them the rite rite front wheel was a bit more farward toward the wheel arch than the left side bit the stock tention rod bush was a bit bust up and leaking oil bit the tention rods ie caster is not ajusted to the correct place

have you ever looked in to finding out if the steering wheel angle sensor is lined up correct?

only iff you have the correct DTA conzult interface lead to go with the software...ebay jobbies dont give you the full package

Is it pulling at low speed as well as high? the reason I ask is that I think the HICAS system only kicks in above 50/55mph.

both low and high i know the hicas only works over a given speed the wheel are straight on the aligment machine but i wonder if there as fault that makes then turn to one side when the car moved soon find out when i disconct hicas when i get the car back this week . but i do see the point your making

i got the cd a lead and a interface so will try it but dont know how to work it but sure i will work it out

just a update the guy who was trying to find out why the car was pulling has spent the day messing round with it disconected the power steering belt in case the rack is making it pull and the hicas to car still pulling wear starting thing the chassis is bent the car us booked into a place near me that has a chassis jig to see if the chassis is bent not good news atall so will update when its been on the chassis jig fingers crossed the chassis isnt bent if it is then the car is getting scraped

i dont understand how it was successfully aligned before, and it still pulls when its straight. if the wheels are straight and aligned properly the car should run true, regardless of the condition of the chassis.

i have been told you can still have the wheels aligned but the chassis still bent

yes that is the case.

but the alignment compensates for the inaccuracies of the chassis.

the steering centre line doesnt have to be bang on the chassis centre, but as long as its tracked and toed correctly it will drive straight and wont pull.

its stop in aglined mate all in the green done a hunter aligment machine .just spoke to the chassis aligment place just told me thay cant dont anything the car is to old and its not on there system so am now very stuck on how to find out whats going on and its doing my head in big time am going to have t sell the car for some one to brake not happy as i just spent a few k on loads of new stuff for it looks like my time with the zx is coming to a end gutted
